Act II Playhouse in Ambler presents Neil Simon's overlooked gem I Ought to Be in Pictures, Feb. 27-March 31, 2018.
Herb, a Hollywood screenwriter (played by Artistic Director Tony Braithwaite), is surprised when his forgotten teenage daughter Libby (played by Jessica Riloff) reappears. Her arrival complicates his relationship with his girlfriend, Steph (played by Tracie Higgins).
"I had never read or really even heard of this play until a year ago," Braithwaite said. "When I finally read it, I found it funny, charming, and with heart."
I Ought to Be in Pictures is directed by Tom Teti. "Tom has directed me in three of Neil Simon's plays in the past and I have always enjoyed our collaboration," Braithwaite said. "We share great affection for Simon's writing, and we approach the rehearsal process the same way as well."
The show has already been extended a week, and tickets are selling fast. A full schedule of performances is available online here. (Opening night for press is Friday, March 2 at 8 p.m.)
The original Broadway production opened in 1980, and won a Tony Awards for Best Featured Actress for Dinah Manoff, who originated the role of Libby.
