Hanover High School Presents HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME ImageOn April 13, 14, & 15, Hanover High School's award winning drama program will present the epic musical The Hunchback of Notre Dame, based on the Victor Hugo Novel with music from the Disney film.

Hanover High School is the first area high school to produce this challenging show and one of the last schools to present their spring musical this season. The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn't the only one captivated by her free spirit, though - the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies - and it's up to Quasimodo to save them all.

The musical features Luke Mumma as Quasimodo, Isabelle Oropeza as Esmeralda, Ethan Gerlach as Frollo and Ben Newman as Phoebus and a cast and crew of almost 50 students. Director is Rene Staub. Assistant Director is Jessica Staub. Music Direction is by Deb Smith. Audiences will be dancing in the aisles with the uplifting crowd pleaser "Topsy Turvy" featuring technical dancers and gymnasts and be enthralled by other familiar favorites including "Out There", "Hellfire" and "God Help The Outcasts" to name a few. The ethereal gregorian chant style of music echoes through the show to compliment the two-story set to bring the audience to the cathedral of Notre Dame and its bell tower that features large fiberglass bells that have been constructed and donated to the theatre program. Special effects will mesmerize the audience as the students take them on a journey to see what makes a monster and what makes a man. Recommended audience age is 10 years of age and older. The show is based more on the Victor Hugo novel than the animated film.

Performances are April 13th and 14th at 7pm, and April 15th at 2pm. Tickets in advance are $7 for students and $8 for adults and are available at the high school office during school hours or online by visiting https://hanover.revtrak.net/spring-musical-play/#/list.
