"This is the second show in Open Stage's Season 30 Subscription Series," says Stuart Landon, the regional theatre's Associate Artistic Director. "I adapted this for our children's theatre group, OSHKids, three years ago and I am honored to share it with our Main Stage audience this season."
Originally mounted in 2013 as the OSHKids Performance Company's production, this inventive adaptation comes to the main stage for audiences of all ages.See the timeless story as you've never seen it before. Peter Pan comes to the Darling's window and he whisks Wendy, John, and Michael to Neverland, where they join the Lost Boys and of course Tinkerbell to do battle with the wicked Captain Hook and his band of pirates. Action, sword fights, comedy, and tragedy... this show has it all this holiday season.
A Peter Pan appropriate for grown ups and families, the cast includes long-time Open Stage actor Nicholas Hughes plays Captain Hook. a role he originated in 2013. James Saracina plays Peter and Noelle Sacher (THE AMISH PROJECT) plays Wendy. The cast also includes Sharia Benn (A RAISIN IN THE SUN), Liz Curtis, J.C. Payne (FENCES), Erin Shellenberger, David Richwine (THE NORMAL HEART), and Kara Smith. The director is Stuart Landon, the stage manager is Laura Dugan, and the design team for PETER, HOOK, & THE DARLINGS includes lighting design by Tristan Stasiulis, costumes by Bridgette Cole, and music by David M. Glasgow.
A collaborative photo shoot of Sacher and Saracina took place in October. Stash Collective, a vintage boutique neighboring Open Stage, styled the photo shoot. One of the owners of Stash, Haley Harned, photographed the cast members at Fort Hunter Park. Lords and Ladies Salon provided the hair and makeup. The set design, conceptualized by Landon, was a collaborative effort between Open Stage Technical Director Ben Rand, designer Sarah Sindelar, designer Kreg Paul, and local artists Liz Laribee and Alexander Holland.
"This wacky and wonderful set has a lot of moving pieces," says Landon. "it really supports the storytelling world we have built. We have created a comedy-fantasy very much in the style of a traditional English panto."
Settle in and open your mind with the boy who would not grow up, for a chaotic, cheeky and charming version of this favorite story. Full of the joys and wonderment of childhood, sprinkled with the dark fears and bittersweet moments that inhabit our youth, PETER, HOOK, & THE DARLINGS will delight the immortal child in all of us.
The comedy and family show plays November 27 to December 13 in the intimate Angino Family Theatre at Open Stage of Harrisburg, located on Court Street between Market and Walnut in downtown Harrisburg.
Admission to PETER, HOOK & THE DARLINGS is $25-$35 ($21 for students with ID). For advanced ticket purchase, call our Box Office at 717-232-OPEN (6736) or visit openstagehbg.com.
