MU Percussion Ensemble Sets Fall Percussion Concerts

The Millersville University Percussion Ensemble is excited to perform two lively percussion concerts on Thursday, November 19, and Sunday, November 22 at the Winter Center located at 60 W. Cottage Avenue, Millersville.

World Percussion

Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

Winter Center -- Millersville

Featuring the MU West African Music and Dance Ensemble and MU Caribe, a newly formed Afro Caribbean hand drumming ensemble, the repertoire for this event will include percussion music from Ghana, West Africa, Cuba, and Japan. All ensembles will perform under the direction of James Armstrong.

Fall Percussion Extravaganza

Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 2:30 p.m.

Winter Center -- Millersville

The MU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of James Armstrong, will join internationally acclaimed percussionist and composer Thomas Kozumplik on stage for a wide variety of percussion literature, including western art staples and new compositions by Kozumplik. Kozumplik is mostly known for his work with Brooklyn based LOOP 2.4.3 and "Music Starts From Silence" collaborations. His most recent CD, entitled "Time Machine", a blend of acoustic and electronic percussion, has gained international notoriety.

James Armstrong is currently Instructor of Percussion at Millersville University where he teaches applied percussion, directs the Millersville University Percussion Ensemble, teaches percussion education classes, teaches West African Music and Dance, coordinates the Millersville and Music For Everyone "Music in the Schools" program, and serves as Artistic Director for the MU Summer Music Camps. James is also President of the Percussive Arts Society Pennsylvania State Chapter, and remains extremely active as a freelance percussionist throughout the greater Philadelphia and New York City Regions.

Tickets are $10 general admission for each event and can be purchased online by visiting ArtsMU.com or by calling 717-871-7600. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Ticket Office located in the Student Memorial Center on Millersville's campus, or the Ware Center, located at 42 N. Prince Street, in Lancaster. MU Student & Visiting Student (any age, any level) tickets are FREE with a valid ID at a ticket office location or at the door. Doors open one hour before each show for ticket sales, subject to availability.
