Gettysburg Community Theatre, the non-profit 501c3 organization located in the original Elks Lodge building at 49 York Street within the first block of Lincoln Square in historic downtown Gettysburg, will present a new one man show as a fundraiser for GCT.

How does an actor give up the theatre? In this case, the answer is, by putting on a show.

Local performer Richard Sautter combines humor and professional agony in his new one-man show 12 Steps, which he will perform as a fundraiser for Gettysburg Community Theatre on May 19 and 20. When the piece had its area premiere at Gettysburg College's Stevens Theatre in January, so many people turned up that additional seats had to be fetched. Sautter and GCT Founding Executive/Artistic Director Chad-Alan Carr are hoping for a similar turnout.

Building on the premise that the desire to be an actor is like an addiction, Sautter spends the show attempting to cure himself by going through a 12 Step program in front of an audience.

The show had its world premiere at the Capital Fringe Festival last July and earned glowing reviews. "While I have done other solo shows, this piece is different from anything else I've ever tried," Sautter relates. "It draws from real-life experiences but stretches the truth. I end up playing a sort of semi-fictional version of myself. That makes it like stand-up. However, while most of the material is funny, the show touches on some very serious subjects There are even some improvisational moments."

Richard Sautter has taught at Gettysburg College for five years and recently appeared in the Totem Pole Playhouse productions of A Christmas Carol and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The performance contains mature language and is not suitable for audiences under the age of 13. The performance lasts about 50 minutes. Tickets are now on sale to this and all productions for 2017 at GCT and can be purchased online at www.GettysburgCommunityTheatre.org or by calling 717-334-2692 with credit card, or by visiting the box office with cash, check or credit card during box office hours Noon-5pm Tuesdays-Fridays at GCT. The theatre is very intimate with only 80 seats so advance purchase is high recommended.
