Outrageous high comedy ensues as the pangs of unrequited love affect the unforgettable characters of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, on stage at Hershey Area Playhouse August 15-18, 2013. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Directed by Jayme Paluskievicz, Twelfth Night was written over 400 years ago by William Shakespeare. It is a timeless comedy full of music that shows how love can make fools of us all. A beautiful Countess (Olivia), after the death of her father and brother, embraces her freedom and shuns love, only to find love knocking on her door. Orsino, a handsome and noble Duke, pines after the Countess who will not have him. Viola who is mourning the apparent death of her twin brother, dresses like him to hide her gender, only to discover that her disguise is a trap. These three form a love triangle that takes the length of the entire play to unravel. Throw in a drunk uncle, a scheming maidservant, a foolish knight, an puritan steward, a musical fool and many others, and you have all the ingredients for a hilariously enjoyable evening that will start, and end, with music.
The cast features Don Bowman as Sir Toby Belch, Kim Greenawalt as Viola/Cesario, Ana Paluskievicz as Feste the Fool, Christina Shindel asCountess Olivia and John Messmer as Malvolvio.
