Hershey Area Playhouse Theatre Academy Announces Summer Performance Camps

This summer at the Playhouse swings into high gear with a choice of two sessions aimed at various ages. The first group of performance-based sessions will begin on Monday June 18th and run for two weeks, meeting weekdays at the playhouse. New this year will be extended hours in our June performance camp for the middle and upper grades based on requests from our campers and their parents who responded to our recent survey.

Our first session features a June performance camp offering something for all ages, from students entering grade 1 through 12 in the fall of 2018. Each age group will be performing a fully scripted play to be featured in an evening performance the last day of class. Kids Camp Jr. for grades 1-3 will focus on the intersection of imagination and performance, tweens and young teens in grades 4-6 will attack plays by analyzing roles and jumping into characters through games and exploration and teens in grades 7-12 will practice audition skills, script analysis and role preparation for a fully scripted play. June performance camp begins Monday June 18th and ends on Friday June 29th with the evening performance starting at 7 PM.

Later in the summer the Playhouse continues its partnership with the Hershey Gardens to offer drama in the gardens beginning Monday July 16th and running through Friday July 27th. This year the production will be an original version of Treasure Island written by local playwright Jennifer Feldser. This rigorous performance camp meets weekdays for 3 hours- Mondays at the Playhouse and Tuesdays through Fridays at the Gardens. Camp ends with a lunchtime performance. Fast-paced and fun, this wildly popular camp fills quickly, so register early to reserve a spot. Daily attendance for the full three hours is mandatory.

Hershey Area Playhouse (www.HersheyAreaPlayhouse.com) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing residents of the community with an opportunity to participate in the creation and production of a theatrical experience.
