Gettysburg Community Theatre, the non-profit 501c3 organization located in the original Elks Lodge building at 49 York Street within the first block of Lincoln Square in historic downtown Gettysburg, will present the musical, GYPSY at 7pm on September 16, 17, 23, 30 and October 1, and at 2pm on September 18, 24, 25, and October 2. Limited reserved seating $18 plus tax/fees.

Gypsy is the ultimate showbiz backstage story of a mother who pushes her daughters to become stars only to lead the children into unexpected directions. Based on the memoirs of legendary burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee, this classic musical features memorable songs as "Let Me Entertain You", "Everything's Coming Up Roses" and "Small World". The music is by Jule Styne, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Arthur Laurents. Gypsy is considered one of the most cherished, complex and popular musicals in the history of theatre.
This production of Gypsy is being directed and choreographed by Bruce Moore, who performed in the Broadway revival production of Gypsy along with Tyne Daly. Bruce has performed in numerous Broadway productions such as Grease and My Fair Lady, and was also a singer on many Disney animated films such as Aladdin. He has previously directed The Secret Garden and Annie Get Your Gun for GCT. Scenic Design is by Greg Trax and Costume Design is by Renea Schroeder. The cast includes Kate Sainer of Hanover as Rose, Carrie Trax of Gettysburg as Louise, Shane Miller of Gettysburg as Herbie, Emily Smallwood of Thurmont as June, Ian Kress of Littlestown as Tulsa, Vanessa Rice of Gettysburg as Electra, Debbie Williams of Gettysburg as Mazepa, and Betty Brownley of Gettysburg as Tessie Tura, along with an ensemble of children, teens, adults and senior citizens including Hailey Brownley, Finn Clarke, Emmett Fitzpatrick, Phyllis French, Don Gateley, Julianna Hazlett, Liliana Hoedemaker, Kalia Hoedemaker, Spencer Kennedy, Ed Kenney, Shane Miller, Celia Moran, Austin Moore, Katherine Murray, Tessa Trax, Audrey Trax, and Rebecca Williams of Gettysburg, Linden Carbaugh of Carroll Valley, Madison DiNello, Erin DiNello, and Lily DiNello of Westminster, Lynn Dowling and Mark Kleinman of New Oxford, Madelyn Greco of Emmittsburg, Austin Greene and Ann Walsh of Orrtanna, David Hurlbert of Fayetteville, Keira Lee of Littlestown, Sue McCleaf Nespeca of Cashtown, Ayssa Meyers and Brenna Yingling of Hanover, and Parker Schroeder of Biglerville.
On September 6th, GCT started a FREE after school program at GCT for any students in 1st-8th Grade for homework/reading hour, music and movement, arts and crafts and more. The application is available online and by calling GCT at 717-334-2692. Coming soon for adults will be GCT's first Improv Night Friday, October 7th at 8pm for Gettysburg First Friday. The Improv Night performance includes refreshments and is free admission but donations are welcome. Also for adults will be The Rocky Horror Show live performances with a live rock band on stage at various 8pm and midnight shows October 22-30. The Rated R BYOB performances of The Rocky Horror Show have tickets on sale online now with limited reserved seating. Audience participation and costumes are encouraged. Then later this fall for the kids and the whole family, GCT will present the youth production of Shrek the musical Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm November 4-20, 2016. Tickets are selling fast online to all shows so order in advance as the intimate black box theatre only seats 80 and is reserved seating.
