GCT Celebrates 10 Years With Alumni Cabaret

Gettysburg Community Theatre (GCT) the not-for-profit 501c3 community theatre located at 49 York Street in historic downtown Gettysburg, will present its 10th year reunion cabaret Summer Nights on Friday, July 27th at 8pm, which includes a wine and cheese reception for patrons before and after the concert.

 

Former students of GCT's Founding Executive/Artistic Director, Mr. Chad-Alan Carr, will be returning to the Gettysburg stage for one night of sharing memories and singing songs from shows they were in as children. Accompanied on piano by Carrie Conklin Trax, singers include: Lara Zinn Dye, Hayley Briner, Marilyn Lopes, Josh Adams, Jared Herr, Andrew Adcock, Abbie Mummert, Jessi Gillingham, Shannon Hutchinson, James Robison, Madison Nichole Melton, and from the Broadway 1st National Tours of An American In Paris and Matilda, GCT alum Liz Schmitz!

Liz Schmitz, performed in the1st National Tours of An American in Paris and Matilda. Regional credits include Fulton Theatre (Ariel in Footloose, Sister Act, Elf, Joseph...), Maine State Music Theatre (Zaneeta in The Music Man, Young Frankenstein), Pittsburgh CLO (Spamalot), Pennsylvania Centre Stage (Anna in Spring Awakening, Guys and Dolls, Sweeney Todd). She received her BFA in Musical Theatre from Penn State University. Graduated Gettysburg Area High School in 2011 and is a proud Member of Actors Equity Association. @lizschmitz

"As a young student, I enjoyed performing at Gettysburg High and Middle Schools, Gettysburg Community Theatre, and Eichelberger Performing Arts Center", says Schmitz. "I also trained at the Hanover School of Ballet and in musical theatre programs through Syracuse University and The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. After graduating from Penn State, I moved to New York City and signed with Daniel Hoff Agency. During college and my first year in NYC I worked for the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, Maine State Music Theatre and Pittsburgh CLO where I was offered membership to the union Actors Equity Association (AEA). After two Broadway 1st National Tours, I am thrilled to enjoy some time off to be able to give back to the community and teachers who helped me become the performer I am today. Thanks for inviting me back GCT!"

Lara Zinn is a graduate of The Catholic University of America and Delone Catholic High School. Past Local Credits include: Eichelberger Performing Arts Center -  Bye Bye Birdie (Kim McAfee), Disney's High School Musical (Gabriella), Les Miserables (Cosette), A Chorus Line (Maggie), Children of Eden (Yonah).  Upcoming: Elf The Musical at Olney Theatre Center.  Regional credits (DC area): Adventure Theatre's World Premiere of Ella Enchanted (Lucinda), Arena Stage - Oliver! "I will always be grateful for my experiences with community theatre", says Zinn. "It is the reason why I am doing what I am doing today. As a young theatre student, Chad allowed us to thrive, taught us discipline, and shared his knowledge and love of the arts with us. I hope so much that every child who is interested in theatre has even a fraction of the opportunity that I had growing up in community theatres."

The Reunion Cabaret is a chance for former students to share memories of being directed by Mr. Chad, as they call him, to sing songs from shows they were in when younger and to inspire the next generation of young performers at Gettysburg Community Theatre.

Tickets are $18 +tax/fees. As the theatre only seats 80, advanced purchase is highly recommended for all GCT shows.
