Described at its premiere by The New York Times as a "sunny new play about gloomy people," Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike follows three middle-aged, co-dependent siblings and other quirky characters as they move through life's ups and downs, loves and losses. Set in nearby Bucks County, the production comes to EPAC after a successful run on Broadway and several awards, including a 2013 Tony Award for Best Play.
Featuring an array of themes from Anton Chekhov's works, the play calls on classic works in more ways than just the siblings' names - but audiences need not be familiar with the Russian playwright's catalogue to enjoy the characters' antics.
Directed by Pat Kautter, the siblings and their cohorts will be brought to stage by a talented cast of actors. The production will run from June 9 through June 18, 2016 at EPAC's Sharadin Bigler Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at ephrataperformingartscenter.com or by calling 717-733-7966 x 1.
The Cast of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike includes EPAC Artistic Director Edward R Fernandez as Vanya, Sharon (Sharona) Mellinger as Sonia, Cynthia Charles as Masha and Brian Viera as Spike. Also in the cast are Blessing Robinson as Cassandra and Jennifer Amentt as Nina.
Wednesday and Thursday shows are at 7:30pm; Friday and Saturday evening shows are at 8pm; Saturday matinees are at 2pm. Ticket prices are $25-$32 for evening performances and $25 for the matinee.
