Civic Theatre will present the finale to its 2013-2014 main stage season with the irreverent, laugh-out-loud Tony-winning musical, "Urinetown" opening on Friday, May 2 with performances through Sunday, May 18. Civic's Artistic Director William Sanders directs and choreographs this musical that won 2002 Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score and has been hailed as one of the most original musicals of the last 20 years. All performances will be held at Civic's historic Nineteenth Street Theatre at 527 N. 19th Street in Allentown. Special discounted tickets are available for performances on opening weekend. Please call the box office or visit www.CivicTheatre.com for more information.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage caused by a 20-year draught has led to a government ban on private toilets. The supposedly evil Mr. Cladwell rules a single monopolistic corporation, UGC, which charges the city's citizens exorbitant prices to use public amenities. But young Bobby Strong, a lowly restroom attendant, decides that now is the time for change! He incites a massive uprising against the Cladwell Empire, only to fall in love with his daughter, Hope. Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht, "Urinetown" spares nothing with its irreverent humor and sharp wit.

"Urinetown: The Musical" features music and lyrics by Mark Hollman and book and lyrics by Greg Kotis. Performances are May 2-3, 8-10, 15-19. Showtimes are Thursdays and Fridays at 7 pm; Saturdays at 8 pm and Sunday (May 18) at 2 pm.

The musical will feature a live onstage band under the musical direction of Justin Brehm. Deena Linn is co-choreographer. Set design is by Jason Sherwood. Will Morris serves as costume and lighting designer. Wig and hair design is by Kim Danish. Emily Heller is production stage manager. She is assisted by Jillian Hutton.
