The Board of Directors and Artistic Director, David Leidholdt, are excited to present the final production of Millbrook's summer season, Jeffrey Hatcher's, Mrs. Mannerly.
Have you been studying your manners? What is the proper placement of a oyster fork when setting a table? Not sure? Mrs. Mannerly will certainly mark points off of your grade, for she is the notorious teacher of the best etiquette class in all of Steubenville, Ohio.
Hatcher's madcap tale is related through Jeffrey's memories of his time in Mrs. Mannerly's etiquette class. While Mrs. Mannerly has tutored countless students in poise, posture, and the polka for thirty-six years, no one has ever managed to get a perfect score on the final exam. Ten-year-old Jeffrey, who wants nothing more than to be the best at something, is determined to be the first to achieve this feat. In the process of mastering his manners, will Jeffrey do what it takes to come out on top or will his outrageous schemes to win cost him more than he bargained for? As Jeffrey discovers the secrets of etiquette, he learns what it means to grow up and how friends can be found in the most surprising of places.
Mrs. Mannerly captures playwright Jeffrey Hatcher's semi-autobiographical memories of a 1967 childhood etiquette class. The cast features Joan Crooks (Steel Magnolias) as the title character, Mrs. Mannerly, and Matt Harris (Baskerville, Smoke on the Mountain) as Jeffrey. Mrs. Mannerly is directed by Millbrook's Artistic Director, David E. Leidholdt. The creative team includes Set Design by John Rohr, Costume Design by Jesse R. Shipley, Lighting Design by Nathaniel Garcia, Props Design by Savannah Draper, and Sound Design by Damien Figueras.
