The 5th annual FoodStock Music Festival takes place July 28th on the grounds of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in Lancaster County. The event provides area food pantries with assistance, and focuses on smaller, close-to-the public organizations.
FoodStock president Tom Hayden was driven to produce such an event through his love of music, and his work with the US Postal Service. Seeing how successful the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has been these past many years, Hayden was inspired to do something further.
In Pennsylvania, 1 in 8 people, and 1 in six children struggle with hunger, according to feedingamerica.org -- a term used in the media of late is "food insecurity," which might be construed as hunger, but Hayden says it goes deeper. Add to it, those turning up at food pantries are more and more coming from all walks of life.
This year's event includes musical events include Rob Reese, Vinyl Groov, Steel Radiance (back for their fifth year), the Grateful Dead tribute band Hydroponic Philharmonic, Lancaster's own Corsair Blue Jazz Orchestra and the Benjamin Vo Blues Band.
The show starts at 11 am, and runs until 6 pm. Raffles, auctions and a craft show will also take place. Tickets and information are available at foodstockpa.org or by calling 717-405-7057.
