County Players, one of the longest running community theatre companies in the area will present theMini-Festival #3 in the CP2 Series Readers Theatre from March 4 to 6 at County Players Falls Theatre located at 2681 W. Main,Wappingers Falls, NY.Reading #1- Grand Concourse by Heidi Schrek will be presented Friday, March 5 at 8pm, and Saturday March 6 at 2pm, anddirected by Dorothy Luongo. Having dedicated her life to religious service, Shelley runs a Bronx soup kitchen with unsentimentalefficiency, but lately her hearts not quite in it. Her brisk nature masks an unsettling fear that her efforts are meaningless. When Emma an idealistic but confused college dropout arrives to volunteer, her reckless mix of generosity and self-involvement pushes Shelleyto the breaking point. With keen humor and startling compassion, Heidi Schrecks play navigates the mystery of faith, the limits offorgiveness, and the pursuit of something resembling. Cast features the talents of Elwin Cuevas, Eliza Fichter, Wendy Urban-Mead,and Douglas Woolley.Reading #2- "Uncanny Valley" by Thomas Gibbons will be presented Saturday, March 5 at 8pm, and Sunday, March 6 at 2pm isdirected by Kristin Battersby. Drawing on current research in artificial intelligence and robotics, UNCANNY VALLEY charts therelationship between Claire, a neuroscientist, and Julian, a nonbiological human. As Julian is born a few body parts at a time overthe course of the play, Claire teaches him how to be as human as possible: mirroring peoples speech, engaging in small-talk, playinga musical instrument. Their deepening friendship and Julians growing humanity lead to the revelations of an unhealed sorrow inClaires personal life and, ultimately, the purpose for which Julian has been created. UNCANNY VALLEY explores the painful dividebetween creator and creation, the inherent unpredictability of consciousness, and how we are redefining what it means to be humanin the twenty-first century. Local actors Julie Eads, and David Keohane appear.CP2 Readers Theatre is an exciting series at County Players which offers an opportunity for actors, directors, and audience membersto experience theater in a fresh way: selected plays with full dramatic readings, no costumes, no sets, no props, and the actorsperform with scripts in hand. These shows are an incredible opportunity to experience great theater stripped to its essence: theplaywrights words.
