WallByrd Theatre Company presents Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard's hit comedy Greater Tuna, directed by Virginia Monte, in the Avyarium Theatre at Village Gate. The production will run Thursdays through Sundays from January 17th through February 3rd. Tickets priced from $22 are available online at www.WallByrd.com or at the door
The day in Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas, begins-as usual-with Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie at the microphones of Radio OKKK, broadcasting at a big 275 watts (at least when they remember to turn the transmitter on). Topping the headlines is the winning entry in the American Heritage Essay Contest, entitled "Human Rights, Why Bother?" As the day continues, Tuna's citizens parade across the stage in all their outrageous and irreverent glory, commenting on life, politics, and what makes them (and sometimes us) tick. A masterful comedy with two actors portraying 20 residents of Tuna, Texas.
Greater Tuna features Shawn Gray and Fred Pienkoski and is directed by WallByrd Theatre's artistic director Virginia Monte. A few of Virginia's Rochester theatre productions include the critically-acclaimed Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Romeo and Juliet at The Highland Bowl; Macbeth, The Taming of the Shrew, and The Importance of Being Earnest at the Lyric Theatre, and The Winter's Tale. Virginia holds a BA in Fine Art from Stetson University, as well as an MA in Directing for Classical and Contemporary Text from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
