Syracuse Stage Single Tickets On Sale Image

It's Christmas in July at Syracuse Stage with a special offer to the first 10 performances of the holiday favorite "Elf the Musical" and the release of single tickets for sale to all shows in the 2018/2019 season.

From July 25 to Aug. 1 only, regular adult priced tickets for the first 10 performances of "Elf the Musical" (Nov. 23 - Dec. 2) will be available at a 25 percent discount with the code ELFPS.

Also starting July 25, tickets for all six shows in the season will be available for purchase. In addition to "Elf the Musical" (Nov. 23 - Jan. 6), the shows in the 2018/2019 season are "Noises Off" (Sept. 12 - 30), "Possessing Harriet" (Oct. 17 - Nov. 4), "Native Gardens" (Feb. 13 - March 3), "Pride and Prejudice" (March 20 - April 7) and "The Humans" (April 24 - May 12).

Tickets may be purchased at the Syracuse Stage Box Office (315-443-3275, Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and online at www.SyracuseStage.org starting on July 25. Season subscriptions and Flex Packs are also available.

Following two seasons of steady growth at the Box Office, Syracuse Stage artistic and administrative leaders anticipate continued strong sales and artistic and popular success in 2018/2019.

The 2017/2018 season was especially strong with sales exceeding 39,000 single tickets, an increase of more than 8,000 tickets compared with the 2016/2017 season. Subscription and Flex Pack sales increased by more than 400. Overall capacity for the season was 87 percent with 41 sold out performances, and three productions-"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time," "The Wizard of Oz," and "Next to Normal"-averaged houses of more than 400 patrons per performance. Sales for single tickets have doubled since 2013.

The holiday shows have been particularly strong. Of last season's 41 sold out performances, 26 were for "The Wizard of Oz." In the previous season, 2017/2018, "Mary Poppins" also had several sold out performances.

"We're excited to build on last season's success to create even more fun and dynamic experiences for everyone," said Artistic Director Bob Hupp. "'Elf' is a touchstone holiday experience for my family, and we're thrilled to bring this warm-hearted musical to life for your family this December."

Hupp said he encourages patrons to buy tickets early especially for "Elf the Musical" and the season opener "Noises Off," Michael Frayn's riotous backstage farce. He noted that Donna Drake, who directed last season's highly successful "The Wizard of Oz," is returning to direct "Elf the Musical." Hupp, who scored popular and critical acclaim last season with "The Three Musketeers" and "Next to Normal," will direct "Noises Off."

SHOW DETAILS

Noises Off

By Michael Frayn

Directed by Bob Hupp

Sept. 12 - 30, 2018

Hailed as the "funniest farce ever written" and a "festival of delirium," "Noises Off" is legendary in the annals of laughter. As a company of actors attempts to deliver a comedy on stage, playwright Frayn takes the audience behind the scenes where the real farce explodes. Slamming doors, wayward fish and comic chaos delivered with impeccable precision make "Noises Off" the most dexterously realized comedy ever about putting on a comedy.

Possessing Harriet

By Kyle Bass

Directed by Tazewell Thompson

Commissioned by the Onondaga Historical Association

Oct. 17 - Nov. 4, 2018

In 1839, Harriet Powell, a young, mixed-race, enslaved woman slips away from a hotel in Syracuse, New York, and escapes from the Southerner who owns her. With the aid of a mysterious free black man named Thomas Leonard, Harriet finds temporary safe harbor in an attic room at the home of impassioned abolitionist Gerrit Smith. With the slave catchers in pursuit, Harriet awaits her nighttime departure on the dangerous journey to Canada in the company of Smith's young cousin Elizabeth Cady, an outspoken advocate for women's equality. Confronted with new and difficult ideas about race, identity, and equality, and with confusion, fear, and desperation multiplying, Harriet is forced to the precipice of radical self-re-imagination and a reckoning with the heartrending cost of freedom. A world premiere by award-winning playwright and Syracuse Stage associate artistic director Kyle Bass.

Elf the Musical

Book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin

Music by Matthew Sklar

Lyrics by Chad Beguelin

Directed by Donna Drake

Choreography by Brian J. Marcum

Musical Direction by Brian Cimmet

Based on the New Line Cinema film by David Berenbaum

Co-produced with the Syracuse University Department of Drama

Nov. 23, 2018 - Jan. 6, 2019

This holiday season channel your inner elf and join Buddy on his journey from the North Pole to New York City to find his real family. For this journey, you will need provisions (four food groups recommended: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup), snowballs and an ability to sing very loud (but maybe wait for the ride home). Most of all, you'll need family and friends and a desire to spread holiday cheer. Donna Drake ("The Wizard of Oz") returns to direct this delightful holiday show.

Native Gardens

By Karen Zacarías

Directed by Melissa Crespo

Co-produced with Geva Theatre Center

Feb. 13 - March 3, 2019

Enjoy a light-hearted look at what ails us in this witty and spot-on new comedy. Take a semi-retired Washington bureaucrat and his defense contractor wife, a young Chilean lawyer and his doctoral student wife, set them Cheek by Jowl in a border dispute over a couple of feet of property in a Georgetown backyard, and let the laugher begin. Privilege, prejudice and, yes, a border dispute all get an equitable skewering in this punchy and playful show. The road to recovering our shared sense of decency might just begin with laughter. A winner of the National Latino Playwriting Award, Karen Zacarías is among the most produced playwrights in the nation. This satirical gem shows us why.

Cold Read: A Festival of Hot New Plays

March 7 - 10, 2019

Featuring playwright Larissa Fasthorse

Pride and Prejudice

Based on the book by Jane Austen

By Kate Hamill

Directed by Jason O'Connell

March 20 - April 7, 2019

In the age of "The Crown" and "Victoria," we go back to the Anglophile source with Kate Hamill's playful adaptation of Jane Austen's classic romance, "Pride and Prejudice." The outspoken Elizabeth Bennet faces mounting pressure from her status-conscious mother to secure a suitable marriage. But is marriage suitable for a woman of Elizabeth's intelligence and independence? Especially when the irritating, aloof, self-involved... tall, vaguely handsome, mildly amusing and impossibly aristocratic Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn? What? Why are you looking at us like that? Literature's greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical, or so full of life, than it does in this effervescent new adaptation. Hey, Jane Austen could show these upstart hipsters a thing or two.

The Humans

By Stephen Karam

Directed by Mark Cuddy

Co-produced with Geva Theatre Center

April 24 - May 12, 2019

Critically acclaimed winner of the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play, "The Humans" offers a compelling look at a slice of contemporary life as seen through a family Thanksgiving celebration. The Blakes of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Eric and Deirdre, have come to Chinatown to spend the holiday with their adult daughters, Aimee and Brigid. Along for the celebration are Momo, Eric's mother teetering in and out of consciousness, and Richard, Brigid's boyfriend. Of course, they eat turkey, but when they talk turkey, it really gets interesting. A blisteringly funny and poignant play about people we might know and people we could be.
