On Saturday, November 8, 2014, Landmark on Main Street's Spotlight Gala '14 attendees were treated to a magical night filled with gorgeous song, whimsical and earthy garden decorations, gourmet foods and the warmth of community.
The evening began with welcome remarks from Landmark on Main Street's Co-Presidents, Adam Grundfast and Suresh Sani. The organization's Executive Director, Sharon Maier-Kennelly, then introduced the evening's honorees; first Bruce Migatz of Albanese & Albanese and then Steven Katz and Dr. Jeffrey Schor of PM Pediatrics, who all had very gracious words as they accepted their awards provided by Sands Point Shop.
Christine Ebersole performed the Big Noise From Winnetka show she debuted earlier this fall to critical reviews with Musical Director Bette Sussman and a hot new band. With songs ranging from Fleetwood Mac (Songbirdand Landslide) and Joni Mitchell (Woodstock) covers to Traditional Spiritual Selections (Elijah Rocks) to American Songbook standards such as Roger & Hammerstein's Something Good and Will You? from Grey Gardens. Not a beat was lost by the Two-Time Tony Award winner despite a newly hurt foot that was in a boot provided by the theater - the performing pro received two standing ovations.
After the performance, the Gala reception was held in a tent erected in the Town of North Hempstead's Blumenfeld Family Park adjacent to the building. The theme - a "Spotlight Garden." The tent was filled with beautiful hanging lanterns, lush ivies, flower pots, tables covered in sod and other delightful garden decorations envisioned by Event Planning Partners and provided by Hicks Nurseries. Likewise, Gala Caterers H on the Harbor used terracotta pots and trays to serve their delicious assortment of savories. Even the desserts stayed true to the theme that included "Cups o' Dirt."
Landmark thanks event Chairs Dina & Philip Adsetts and Karli & Jim Hagedorn and Honorary Chairs Angela Susan Anton, Anton Publications and Lillian McCormick. Landmark's Spotlight Gala '14 raised more than $193,000 - essential funds for the not-for-profit community center to continue its programming for the region.
