After a passionate reception from critics and audiences, the world premiere of Neurosis: A New Musical has announced a one-week extension at the Merry-Go-Round Downtown, part of the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival. The show stars Broadway veterans Joseph Medeiros (Wicked, Grease, White Christmas) and Joanne Baum (Bells Are Ringing.
"Friends" meets Woody Allen, all in a Broadway-style musical, Neurosis is a buddy comedy about two best friends - a man and his neurosis - and what happens when one of them meets the girl of his dreams. The show was discovered in 2012 during the Festival's PiTCH series, which features new musicals presented in their earliest stages of development.
In addition to Medeiros and Baum, the cast includes Patricia Noonan (Death Takes a Holiday), Danny Gardner (Jeff Calhoun and Noah Racey's Pulse), Alexandrea Tocco, Julie Cardia, John E. Elliott, Bob Frame, Scott Duell, and Christine Zavakos.
The show's writers are Allan Rice (book), Ben Green (music) and Greg Edwards (Lyrics). Rice has written for television shows including "The New Adventures of Old Christine" on CBS and "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" on FOX. Green is a veteran of Hasty Pudding Theatricals and a frequent orchestrator for Laurence O'Keefe. Edwards, a two-time finalist for the Fred Ebb Award, has collaborated with Marvin Hamlisch and Arthur Laurents.
