The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse's Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival is now accepting new works submissions to be considered for season two of The PiTCH. The PiTCH, a new-works series, offers creative teams the opportunity to "pitch" their newest idea for a musical to a live audience. Audiences are then invited to give their feedback on the production.
"The PiTCH provides creative teams the opportunity to focus on their work, early in its development, to help clarify the story line and vision. We were very happy with the turnout and response we received from the first season of The PiTCH," said Ed Sayles, creator ofThe PiTCH and producing director for the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival. "What is really exciting is that one of the new musicals 'pitched' in 2012, Neurosis: the Musical, has been picked up for full production at the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival in 2013."
Ten projects will be selected to "pitch" over the course of second 10-week season, running from June 13-Aug.17, 2013. The submission deadline is Dec. 15. For details and specific submission requirements for The PiTCH, go to www.fingerlakesmtf.com/submissions/the-pitch-musicals-in-development/. For those selected to participate in the 2013 season, travel and accommodations will be provided for their one-week residency at the Festival.
"We received great feedback from the teams that 'pitched' in our inaugural year," said Walter Ryon, coordinator for The PiTCH. "Most notably the teams thought that it was helpful to have a week to focus exclusively on their work, and found that the feedback from the audience helped them shape their work in ways they never imagined."
