Liberty Town Productions, Libertyville's not-for-profit entertainment company, is bringing the success of television's The Sing Off and American Idol to town by promoting its second annual concert of university and high school a cappella singing ensembles on April 9.

A Night of A Cappella Music will feature Northwestern University's Undertones, University of Chicago's Voices in Your Head and Libertyville High School's Master Singers. The concert will be at 7:30 pm, Saturday, April 9, at Libertyville's St Lawrence Church, 121 W. Church Street.

"Liberty Town Productions actively searches out, then produces or promotes what entertains our town," said Barry Reszel, the company's executive director. "Last year we enjoyed wonderful performances by two collegiate groups-Redefined from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and 12th Street Harmony from Hope College. So we decided to do it again, but to bring in groups from two Chicagoland schools that have been recognized regionally and nationally for their musical excellence."

The Undertones, a 17-member co-ed group at Northwestern, placed among the top a cappella groups in the Midwest and took home awards for best arrangement at last year's quarterfinal and semifinal International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA). They have released three studio albums-"Seriously Now," "enter soUnd," and "Boots and Cats"-and tour nationally and internationally.

Voices in Your Head, a 15-member co-ed ensemble from the University of Chicago, placed 3rd in this year's ICCA Midwest quarterfinal, including a judge's award for outstanding arrangement. Voices have recorded four albums-"Note to Self," "Songs for Padded Rooms," "On Point," and "Sesquipedalia"-and their recent original track, "Boomerang," has been nominated for a 2011 Collegiate A Cappella Recording Award (CARA) as best scholastic original song. CBS News called their arrangement and performance of "Magic" on Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella! "a performance to match the song title."

The Libertyville High School Master Singers is an audition-required group including the school's top vocalists under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Brown.

Tickets for A Night of A Cappella Music ($14 for adults, $12 for students) are available online at www.libertytownproductions.com. With a 200-seat maximum house, producers expect a sellout and encourage patrons to purchase tickets in advance. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door, approximately 30 minutes before the concert.
