LA CAGE AUX FOLLES Comes to the Woodstock Playhouse Image

With show girls, feathers, glitz and legs for days, this 11-time Tony Award Winning Jerry Herman musical, based on the French play of the same name by Jean Poiret, is a timeless romantic comedy. Harvey Fierstein's witty and poignant dialogue lights up the stage as families are redefined and both laughter & love are shared. With unforgettably romantic songs including 'With Anne On My Arm', 'Song On The Sand', 'The Best of Times', and the show-and-heart--stopping 'I Am What I Am', 'La Cage' is an anthem for the heart and soul.

Story: Made famous by the movies 'The Birdcage' (1996 United Artists Screen Actors Guild Award Winner) starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane and 'La Cage Aux Folles' (1978 Golden Globe Award Winning Franco-Italian;) After twenty years of un-wedded bliss Georges and Albin, two men partnered for better-or-worse get a bit of both when Georges' son (fathered during a one-night fling) announces his impending marriage to the daughter of a bigoted, right-wing politician. Further complicating the situation is the 'family business': Albin and Georges run a drag nightclub in St. Tropez, where Albin is the "star" performer 'Zaza'. Georges reluctantly agrees to masquerade as "normal" when he meets the family of the bride-to-be. But Albin has other plans, with hilarious results. With a French flair, 'La Cage' celebrates "love is love is love", romance, and being true to who you really are.
