July 12 - Jon B. Woodin
Jon B. Woodin is a young, local artist who has been compared to James Taylor, Jim Croce, and Gordon Lightfoot. Jon has played principal cello in the Catskill Community Orchestra, Hawthorne Valley Community Orchestra, Hearts Content Trio, and Celtic Bands Sizzling Strings. He has also been in theatrical productions for UpStage Productions, The Chatham Players, HRC Showcase Theatre, and appeared many times at the Mac-Haydn Theatre. He plays guitar, violoncello, concertina, keyboards, banjo, harmonica, electric and acoustic bass, and ukulele. He has taken vocal training with Jay Poughe of Palenville, New York. "I tend to write folk, soft pop or Celtic songs primarily. My musical background started around musical theater and later branched out to include classical orchestral music, chorus and jazz band. Music has always been a crucial emotional anchor in my life, and I love to create and help shape that anchor for all those who cherish music."
Vocalist Teri Roiger has been a musician most of her life, starting out on piano and organ at a very young age, and eventually gravitating to her love of singing jazz in her 20s. Her latest CD (3rd recording as a bandleader) is called DEAR ABBEY: The Music of Abbey Lincoln, and was released on INNER CIRCLE MUSIC in September 2012. Abbey's music has had a profound influence on Teri's life as a musician, singer, songwriter, lyricist, and pianist. Teri has been performing, writing, recording, producing, and teaching jazz for many years. For fifteen years she's been sharing her knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with her students at SUNY New Paltz (NY) where she teaches the History of Jazz, Jazz Voice, and Vocal Jazz Ensembles. She has also been performing and teaching all over the U.S., Canada, Italy, Mexico, Panama, France, and Germany. Laurence Donohue-Greene, Managing Editor of the New York City Jazz Record, chose DEAR ABBEY as one of his favorite vocal releases in the Jazz Journalist Association's "best of" list for 2012, and it is featured as one of the five best tribute releases of 2012 in NYC Jazz Record's January 2013 issue.
Native New Yorker, guitarist and composer Billy Stein has been involved in multiple music scenes in and around NYC for many years. He has worked with mainstream jazz musicians such as Milt Hinton and Sahib Shihab, as well as free jazz artists such as Rashid Bakr. Billy has also worked with the Coasters and latin recording artist Joe Blanco, among many other diverse musicians. He was a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts grant to study classical guitar with Leonid Bolotine. Stein leads his own trio which recorded "Hybrids" (Barking Hoop, 2006). Stein and Moss released the collaborative recording "Intervals" (4th Stream Records) last year. billysteinmusic.com
