Matilda McHartle would describe herself as a perfectly ordinary person and her behavior as completely normal for a single woman approaching forty. She'd admit to being a little quirky for an accountant but she'd never guess what other people might call her if they knew the details of her sex life . . . that is until she is arrested for running a brothel and taKen Downtown for formal questioning.
Heidi Weeks plays Matilda in this show that has drawn raves around the country for her performance. Los Angeles Weekly called it "provoking...brisk and intimate...smart, vivacious and energetic...Weeks is an upbeat and entirely likeable tour guide to a realm of cheerful sluttitude".
Originally scheduled for one night only as part of Chenango River Theatre's new series of solo performances (The One Night Stand Series), the Monday, August 29 show has already SOLD OUT. A second show on Tuesday, August 30 at 7:30pm has been added and a few tickets remain for that performance.
The performance originated in Toronto, where it garnered widespread acclaim and has subsequently been performed in NYC as well as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in Los Angeles. Toronto's Now Magazine loved it, saying "Few performances equal Heidi Weeks'. She creates a universe of always believable and sympathetic characters" while Toronto's Eye Weekly gave it its highest recommendation, saying "4 stars! "McFarlane's script delicately balances humor with an urgent questioning of gender and moral codes in a hypocritical society -- and delivers amply on both counts."
