Geva Theatre Center's 2011-2012 Season continues with Tracy Letts' play, Superior Donuts, which begins performances on April 3 and runs in the Elaine P. Wilson Mainstage through April 29.

Aging hippie Arthur Przbyszewski owns a rundown donut shop in a multi-ethnic neighborhood of Chicago. His black, teenage assistant Franco, full of dreams and bright ideas, wants to rejuvenate the shop with lively music and low-cal menu options. What's a radical to do when presented with even more radical ideas? 

Considered one of America's best contemporary playwrights, Tracy Letts is the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of August: Osage County which also won the Drama Desk Award and the 2008 Tony Award for Best Play. The film version of August: Osage County, starring Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, with the screenplay by Letts, is due for release in 2013. His play, Man from Nebraska, was also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and was named one of Time Magazine's Top Ten Plays of 2003. As an actor, Letts is an active ensemble member of Steppenwolf where his appearances include The Dazzle; Glengarry Glen Ross; Three Days of Rain, andPicasso at the Lapin Agile. Film and TV appearances include Guinevere, U.S. MarshalChicago Cab, "The Drew Carey Show," "Home Improvement," and "Seinfeld." 

Superior Donuts premiered at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2008 and had its Broadway premiere the following year at the Music Box Theatre starring Michael McKean as Arthur Przybyszewski. 

The cast of Superior Donuts includes Jamal Abdunnasir (Kevin Magee), Christopher Burns (Luther Flynn), Skip Greer (Arthur Przybyszewski), Daryll Heysham (Max Tarasov), James Holloway (Franco Wicks), Patricia Lewis (Lady Boyle), Mary Jo Mecca(Officer Randy Osteen), Ron Scott (Officer James Bailey) and Jeffrey Evan Thomas (Kiril Ivakin). 

 

Superior Donuts is directed by Mark Cuddy, who will also design the sound for the production. The artistic team includes Jack Magaw(scenic design), Christina Selian (Costume Design), Matt Reinert (Lighting Design), and David Leong (Fight Choreographer).
