Cortland Repertory Theatre's "CRT KIDS" program, starring the 2012 Performing Interns, will present four performances of "Aladdin", a participation play adapted by Moses Goldberg. This version of the kind-hearted little thief is appropriate for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade and includes a great deal of audience participation.
Performances of "Aladdin" are available today, July 12 and July 14, 20 and 21 at 10:00 am at the Little York Pavilion. Tickets may be purchased by calling 800-427-6160 or in person at the NEW location of the CRT Box Office at 24 Port Watson Street in downtown Cortland. Tickets are also available for sale 24 hours a day through the CRT website at www.cortlandrep.org. The show is a wonderful introduction to live theatre for young people.
A traveling group of actors stumble on the stage at the Little York Pavilion, after struggling through a terrible storm that sunk their ship. After piecing together bits of costumes and props, they decide to perform the magical Arabian Nights story of Aladdin the peasant boy for the audience. The audience - young people and adults alike - help Aladdin discover the Genie of the Lamp, win the heart of the Princess, and defeat the evil Sorceress. The story contains lots of slapstick humor, audience participation and a valuable lesson about friendship.
Directing this production is Homer resident Kim Hubbard, whose previous CRT KIDS credits include "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz", "The Jungle Book", "Treasure Island" and many more. Assistant Director is Meredith Van Scoy, who has previously assisted Mr. Hubbard with the children's shows.
The cast, all members of CRT's Performing Intern Company include Chris Collins as The Genie, Avery Epstein as the Director, Alexander Hulett as Aladdin, Alexa Shanahan as the Sorceress, Abby Sheridan as the Princess and Parker Slaybaugh as the Sultan.
Stage Manager Natasha Thompson, also a member of the CRT intern program, leads the production staff, which includes Scenic Designer Jason Bolan, Costume Designer Jimmy Johansmeyer, Lighting Designer Louis Kreienkamp, Sound Designer Seth Asa Sengel, and Properties Designer Sam Sheehan. Patrick McGovern serves as Technical Director.
Tickets are also on sale for CRT's mainstage summer season, including the current production of the musical "Cats", and the upcoming Agatha Christie's "The Hollow", "The Drawer Boy", and "The Mystery of Irma Vep". See CRT's website for more details at www.cortlandrep.org.
