Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (PTPA) is honored to announce the Northeast premiere of comedian Steve Solomon's new show, "Battle of the Broadway Comedians Starring Steve Solomon & Dick Capri," at Patchogue Theatre on Saturday, May 13 at 8 p.m. Steve Solomon is the author of the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway show, "My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish, & I'm in Therapy!"

"Battle of the Broadway Comedians" is the ultimate dual between two comedic heavyweights who will "battle" on stage in front of a live audience. In one corner, weighing in at 165 pounds the current middleweight champion, "Catskills on Broadway" star: Dick Capri. And, in the other corner, weighing in at well.... a bit more, the current heavyweight comedy contender, "My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy!" star and creator, Steve Solomon. You'll want to have a ringside seat when this riotous duo pulls no punchlines in this... "evening of absolute belly laughs!"

A Brooklyn native, Steve Solomon grew up in the multi-ethnic neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay. This was the perfect training ground for a dialectician and comedian. Solomon learned at an early age how to use his gift for imitating accents to his advantage. He also realized that he was a prolific writer of jokes and stories. Solomon submitted dozens of his stories to periodicals, friends and stand-up comics he knew in the business. With the coming of the internet and email, he now had an outlet for much of his comedy writings. One email full of his jokes became ten, then ten became hundreds, soon thousands of fellow e-mailers were enjoying Solomon's humor; and so it went for over 20 years. To this day, Solomon receives email versions of his own jokes from all over the world. Using humor, dialects and sound effects in teaching, Steve Solomon became the real life version of Gabe Kaplan's "Welcome Back Kotter." Eventually, Solomon became a high school physics teacher and an assistant superintendent of Long Island schools.

Solomon left his academic career behind and turned his attention to his latent love of making people laugh. As he puts it, "I decided to follow my heart and become an impoverished comedy writer and performer." His show, the three-time award winning, "My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm In Therapy!" has met with rave reviews to sold out crowds throughout the country. It also became one of the longest running one-man comedy shows in history, having been performed over 5,000 times to almost three quarters of a million people. This year marks the show's 10th anniversary.

Dick Capri has taken the comedy world by storm and has left millions laughing in his comedic wake. In a career that has spanned two continents, Capri has played every major entertainment medium including nightclubs, resorts, arenas and theaters. He has even plied his trade on the Broadway stage with his 1991 Broadway debut, the critically acclaimed "Catskills On Broadway," and on national television in Comedy Central's highest-rated special, "New York Friars Roast In Honor Of Drew Carey." Dick Capri has worked with such major stars as Tom Jones, Liza Minnellli and Frank Sinatra.
