On Friday, July 29 at 8:00pm in the Spanish Courtyard, Caramoor presents a seemingly unlikely encounter between singer-songwriter and polymath Gabriel Kahane and cello virtuoso Alisa Weilerstein. In a program that ignores musical boundaries and unveils an eclectic landscape of influences, performances of Kahane's original songs - which feature piano, banjo, electric guitar, and loops - are contrasted by unaccompanied cello works by Bach and Britten.

A major highlight of the concert is Kahane's newest work Little Sleep's Head Sprouting Hair in the Moonlight - which was written expressly for Weilerstein and the composer himself. It is a hybrid cello sonata/song cycle set to the eponymous poem by Galway Kinnell from his monumental work, The Book of Nightmares.

On Saturday, July 30 at 8:00pm, Caramoor presents the supremely gifted young soloists Jennifer Koh and Alisa Weilerstein, who bring laser-like intensity to the special dialogue that is Brahms' Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra. Conductor Pablo Heras-Casado leads the Orchestra of St. Luke's in this thrilling program of orchestral masterpieces, which opens with Beethoven's Overture to Egmont, and closes with Mendelssohn's Symphony No.4 in A Major.

On Sunday, July 31 at 4:30pm, Caramoor presents Prizing the Pulitzer II, the conclusion of a two-concert celebration of the music geniuses nominated for the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. An impressive compilation of American masterworks will be performed by the Music from Copland House ensemble, including Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring, as well as the works of Lukas Foss, Samuel Barber, Charles Ives, Gian Carlo Menotti, Ernst Toch and Walter Piston. In addition, this cultural touchstone of a series provides concertgoers an opportunity to attend a 3:30pm pre-concert discussion about the brilliant composers honored - and in some cases, controversially overlooked - by the prize.
