Jen Waldman, artistic director of the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, NY, has announced that she will not seek to renew her contract for the coming 2016 season and will depart the organization at the end of 2015.

"My decision to leave the Hangar has been a very difficult one, but in my heart, I know it is the right choice. That said, I am so pleased with all we have achieved in the last two and a half years," said Waldman. "We have successfully balanced artistic excellence with fiscal responsibility. And, I am proud to have overseen the revitalization of our Hangar Lab Company and the strengthening of our relationship with the Drama League Directors Project."

During her tenure, Waldman has overseen 26 productions in the Hangar's Mainstage, KIDDSTUFF and Wedge seasons and directed critically acclaimed productions of Talley's Folly, Spring Awakening, Little Shop Of Horrors, and Red. Following a successful 2015 Mainstage season, the Hangar was voted "Best of Ithaca" in the Ithaca Times. Waldman stated, "Along with our staff and dedicated artists, many people helped make our recent accomplishments possible. I am grateful to the Board of Directors and the many foundations, local businesses, and individuals in the community who so strongly support the mission of the Hangar."

Board President Margaret Shackell praised Waldman, saying "We are sorry to lose Jen, but know that the foundation that she and previous artistic directors have laid for the Hangar will enable the organization to continue to build and grow. Jen has created and overseen nothing but high quality entertainment at the Hangar and for that we are especially grateful. We look forward to maintaining a connection with her as she continues her work in New York."

Waldman plans to continue her role as founder and director of Jen Waldman Studio, one of the top actor training studios in New York City. She will also continue her work as a director and choreographer in addition to maintaining her responsibilities as the Theatre Chair for the National YoungArts Foundation.

The Hangar will shortly announce the appointment of an interim Artistic Director for the 2016 season. A national search will follow in early 2016, and a new permanent Artistic Director will be announced in the summer of 2016.
