Jupiter Theatre is Bringing Frankenstein Back to Life ImageJupiter Theatre is excited to announce their mainstage production of the season: Frankenstein, based on the classic gothic novel by Mary Shelley. The play is being adapted and directed by Artistic Producer Andrew G. Cooper, who is a puppeteer on the first two seasons of The Jim Henson Company's Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock filmed here in Calgary and who recently designed and directed the puppets for Alberta Theatre Project's holiday hit The Jungle Book.

This theatrical performance from the critically-acclaimed Jupiter Theatre combines elements of puppetry, shadows, masks, movement and provocative design to bring to life a unique and spectacular production in Calgary. Frankenstein will take audiences on a haunting and thrilling journey in the theatre that they won't soon forget.

"Frankenstein is a story I've been drawn to since reading it as a teenager. The tale is epic in scale and its core is both timeless and timely," says Artistic Producer Andrew G. Cooper. "The production is going to be a spectacle-it will dazzle people. We'll be exploring the 200-year-old novel in exciting and very theatrical way. I think audiences will be thrilled."

Who is the true monster? Frankenstein presents the tragedy of an outcast creature brought into existence by the young scientist Victor Frankenstein. In this adaptation of Mary Shelley's spine-chilling classic, Victor is obsessed with discovering the secrets of science and nature, but nothing can prepare him for what he brings to life one dark night in the heart of winter. So begins a life-or-death adventure as the creature struggles to find his place in the world while battling the demons inside himself.

Jupiter Theatre's production of Frankenstein by Andrew G. Cooper run March 23 - April 2, 2023 at the West Village Theatre (2007 10th Avenue SW, Calgary, AB) as part of the 2023 Festival of Animated Objects. Performances start at 7:30 pm, with additional matinee performances on weekends at 2:00 pm. The matinee performances will be Pay-What-You-Can, so audiences can choose their ticket price in advance or make a donation at the doors.
