Bringing a New York hit to the Calgary Tower.
Calgary-based company Birnton Theatricals, in association with SEBO Data Solutions, proudly presents the Canadian Premiere of the Off-Broadway musical "The Other Josh Cohen" - Book, Music and Lyrics by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen.
Nominated for six Drama Desk Awards and the Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical, this hilarious and endearing musical was hailed by Jesse Green of The New York Times as "a spontaneously charming musical that is just right for right now." Chris Stockton, the Artistic Director of Birnton Theatricals and veteran director, leads an A-Team cast of Albertan Talent.
Enter the quirky world of Josh Cohen's New York City apartment... as it is getting robbed. Thus begins the hilarious rock-and-roll romantic comedy about good guy Josh, caught in a lifelong battle with bad luck. Broke and alone, all hope seems lost - until a mysterious letter arrives that changes his life forever. Two actors play the hapless-yet-warmhearted title character - one eventful year apart - in a 90-minute life-changing laughfest for the whole family that will leave you feeling better about the world.
Multiple Betty-Award winning actress Karen Johnson-Diamond joins the cast of The Other Josh Cohen in a very special role. Johnson-Diamond chose the latter half of her stage surname based on her undying love for the singer/songwriter Neil Diamond. Luckily enough, Neil Diamond makes an appearance in The Other Josh Cohen, and Stockton knew there was no other woman for the part. But there are other musical ties to the show as well; Christopher Duthie, Kevin Cambridge, Alixandra Cowman, Francis T. Leigh, Eric Wigston and Melissa Dorsey who round out the cast play 25 instruments in total, including the melodica, the cajone, the keytar and the cowbell!
The Other Josh Cohen runs in The Studio at Vertigo Theatre from March 19th to April 4th, with previews on March 17th and 18th. It runs at approximately 95 minutes with no intermission. Tickets are $41.00 for General Admission or $33.00 for Students/Seniors and can be purchased through the Vertigo Theatre Box Office at tickets.vertigotheatre.com or by calling 403-221-3708
