Musical Theatre Factory presents the second edition of "Songs by Ridiculously Talented Composers and Lyricists you Probably Don't Know but Should," celebrating the work of emerging musical theatre writers mentored by two-time Tony Award winner William Finn.
Mr. Finn explains what makes a good song great as he hosts this evening of personal favorites, featuring cast members Anne L. Nathan (Once, Assassins), Aidan Gemme (Mary Poppins), Celisse Henderson (Godspell), Mykal Kilgore (Mowtown), Elizabeth Stanley (Company), George Salazar (Godspell), Michael Linden (Hair National Tour), Alyse Alan Louis (Nerds), Jeremy Morse (Bloodsong of Love), Amanda Savan (On the Record), Joelle Lurie, and showcasing work by Danny Abosch, Nikko Benson, Noel Carey, Sara Cooper, Maggie-Kate Coleman, Jeremy Desmon, Vadim Feichtner, Josh Freilich, Benjamin Halstead, Oliver Houser, Joe Iconis, Anna Jacobs, Hannah Kohl, Sean Patterson, Jonathan Pearson, Eric Price, Sam Salmond, Jahn Sood, Christopher Staskel, Joseph Trefler, Bryan Treitler, Sarah Underwood, and Joel Waggoner.
The concert is produced and directed by Shakina Nayfack. Jeremy Robin Lyons music directs.
A "Ridiculously Talented After Party" follows the show, featuring an open mic with all new work by the evening's featured writers."Ridiculously Talented 2" plays 54 Below (254 West 54th Street) on Monday, March 3rd at 9:30PM. WILLIAM FINN is the writer and composer of Falsettos, for which he received two Tony Awards: Best Book of a Musical (with James Lapine) and Best Original Score. He has also written and composed In Trousers, March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland (Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, two Los Angeles Drama Critics Awards, two Drama Desk Awards, the Lucille Lortel Award and Guggenheim Fellowship in Musical Composition). Mr. Finn wrote the lyrics to Graciela Daniele's Tango Apasionado (music by Astor Piazzolla). For the Public: Romance in Hard Times; the music to The Winter's Tale (with Michael Starobin) and As You Like It (with Vadim Feichtner). Finn teaches at the NYU Tisch Graduate Program in Musical Theatre Writing and heads the Musical Theatre Lab at Barrington Stage. Other projects include A New Brain and Elegies, A Song Cycle (Lincoln Center), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which ran on Broadway for three years, and this season's Little Miss Sunshine at Second Stage.
Founded by Shakina Nayfack in 2014, Musical Theatre Factory is dedicated to helping musical theatre artists develop and present new work in a collaborative atmosphere free from the pressures of critical or financial success. MTF seeks to accomplish this goal by identifying new works and artists of promise, then facilitating a development process that includes readings, concerts, workshops, and public performances of new musical theatre projects. Currently in development: Junk: A Rock Opera with the Swedish pop band Brainpool, Jahn Sood's The Disappearing Man, and The Craft - The Musical with composer Kevin Michael Jones.
