New York Theatre Barn will present new work by Chicago starlit writers Joe Kinosian and Kellen Blair, and fresh voice Alexander Sage Oyen at a special installment of its new works platform NYTB in the D-Lounge tonight, November 12 as a benefit for Hurricane Sandy relief and recovery, NYTB Benefits Sandy.
“It just makes sense for NYTB to jump in and participate. We consider ourselves a family of new musical theater writers, actors, and producers – what better way is there to give back than one family to another,” Producing Director Jason Najjoum says. “The kind folks at the
Daryl Roth Theatre are letting us collect goods in their lobby starting at 10:30am through the end of our show, and the next day, we’ll bring them to distribution centers in Brooklyn and Staten Island.”
For up to date information on what items should be donated 10:30am – 7:30pm on Monday, go to
facebook.com/nytheatrebarn.
Wesley Taylor (“Smash”, The Addams Family, Rock of Ages) stars in “What do you mean we’re sharing this concert with somebody else?” The Songs of Kinosian and Blair, as they present a selection of tunes from their songbook. According to Kinosian and Blair, “some of them are new, like a fresh-faced baby boy. Some of them are old, like an aging father who hurts his knee and causes his son to realize for the first time that he isn’t invincible.” Joining Taylor is
Madeleine Doherty (Sister Act, The Producers), Natalie Charlé Ellis (
Forbidden Broadway: Alive & Kicking), Anna Marquardt (Walmartopia), Sarah Ziegler (The Black Monk), Kinosian and Blair, with Ian Weinberger on drums. Nick Brennan will direct.
A recent transplant from Orlando, Florida,
Alexander Sage Oyen will premiere songs from his upcoming sophomore album Drafts, soon to be released on iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon.com. For more information about Drafts, visit

Alexander Sage Oyen (Music/Lyrics/Arrangements) is a New York based composer/lyricist/Dexter enthusiast. He currently has no awards to his name, but he is the proud owner of a dachshund named after a scandalous politician. Alex was featured on a reality television show (In Search Of The Partridge Family), performed with Broadway stars
Faith Prince and
Davis Gaines (“Tobias” in Sweeney Todd) and wrote and produced an album of his musical theatre tunes (If I Knew Better: The Songs Of
Alexander Sage Oyen avail. on iTunes, Amazon and CDBaby) all before the age of 18. Now 20, he realizes that all of the glory is behind him and that he’s not getting any younger. He owes everything to (and he means everything) to his parents, Lois and Chris and his sisters, Rebecca and Veronica. Many people inspire him, but he only steals from a few. Listen for it, you’ll hear.
