54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents "An Evening with Vivian Reed" on Monday, March 31, at 7pm.
After packing the club at 254 E. 54 Street to the rafters in a quick sellout last November, the multi-award-winning singer, actress and dancer Vivian Reed performs an encore presentation of her passionate and powerful vocal stylings in unique arrangements of an eclectic lineup of R&B, jazz, gospel and musical theater songs.
Through selections from her critically acclaimed Broadway performance in Bubbling Brown Sugar, as well as from Three Mo' Divas, her concerts and international nightclub appearances, the two-time Tony Award nominee - who is the recipient of a Drama Desk Award, a Theatre World Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award, among others - pays tribute to the people who have had a profound effect on her career.
Reed's high-energy show features: special guests Bertilla Baker, Anastasia Barzee, Janinah Burnette and Luba Mason; background singers Chapman Roberts and Raun Ruffin; and musicians Jason Yarcho (on piano/conductor), Ray Naccari, (on keyboard), Clyde Bullard (on bass), Damon Duewhite (on drums), and Henry Young (on sax).
Fred Barton sits in on piano, leading Reed and her special guests in a salute to Harold Arlen, with a preview of songs from One for My Baby, a new musical in progress orchestrated and coauthored by Barton and director/choreographer Scott Thompson.
Doors open at 5pm; cover charges ($35-$45) and food and beverage minimums ($25) apply. For information and tickets go to 54below.com/artist/vivian-reed/. Tickets on the day of performance after 2:00 pm are only available by calling 646.476.3551.
