With music and lyrics by Nick Dothée and Kevin Ray, "My Own Devices" is a conglomeration of pop songs that deconstruct what it means to control one's destiny. Dothée says, "In writing this album, I wanted to speak not only to my life experiences, but to those humorous, ironic, and heartbreaking occurrences that affect us all - parental relationships, adolescence, break-ups, even fits of insomnia. This album is about shedding fears, releasing anxieties, and celebrating the joy of living in a positive forward motion."
Born in San Francisco, CA, Nick Dothée is an accomplished actor, singer and songwriter. After gradutating from North Carolina School of the Arts, he moved to New York City. He has since been a featured artist at Ars Nova, Joe's Pub, The Laurie Beechman Theatre, and The Duplex, among others. This year, he was a featured soloist at a concert at the American Embassy in Vienna (conductor John Mauceri), and played Tony in West Side Story at the West Virginia Public Theatre. His partnership with Kevin Ray commenced last year when they wrote "Sleep Tonight," the first single (available on iTunes) from his album "My Own Devices."
