Okay! Those of us that know, the cabaret stages of New York City are as limited in scope as the imagination of producers and performers. And let's face it, in this city, ANYTHING GOES!!! So the NYC Cabaret Festival made sure it had its share of acts beyond the traditional piano /singer standards and revues. With two weeks, three stages and over two hundred performing artist, there truly is something for everyone.
The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players has been a beloved NYC staple in clubs and theaters for years. The Pendulum Swings is the first big-band project from Jason Trachtenburg, featuring a seasoned 8-piece horn section. The band has been described as, "...A warped Sinatra..." by Time Out New York. Their show is a stylistic homage to big-band era Duke Ellington and Count Basie. The musical performance is brash, yet mysterious; humorous yet somehow serious. The overt comedic element cannot cannot downplayed enough. Legendary in-between song banter, rip-roaring one-liners, and an unforgettable "Q and A" session with the audience are commonplace at a Pendulum Swings show!
The festival features a number of magic, circus and variety acts. Most acts have times for both kids and adults to enjoy.
Randy Masters combines magic, comedy, mind-reading, and audience-participation into a fun and memorable performance.
Inspired by Alexander Calder's "Circus", "Il Circo di Urbano"(Urbano's Circus) is where art meets theatre. You will be amazed and entertained by these trash-constructed puppets as they perform their death defying and suspenseful acts.
Due to insurance issues and theater restriction you won't see Justin Wood juggling chainsaws or fire, however, the comedic circus act still promises to amaze as Justin Wood Circus has around the world including TV & Film appearances.
Additional shows feature tribute artists (Temptations, Rosemary Clooney, Blues Brothers, Abbott & Costello), Punk Rock Acoustical Set, One Act musicals and Plays, Improv & Sketch Comedy, Dance Troupes, and of Course some of the best up and coming (and a few known stars TBA) form the NYC cabaret stages....
