The Secret Variety Society have announced a special "one-off" variety performance featuring the comedian Matt Roper, the singer-songwriter Sabrina Chap, and the magician The Great Dubini at the Slipper Room-the house of varieties on the Lower East Side-this Wednesday, 30th August at 8pm. Described as "surreal, sublime and satirical", the Secret Variety Society is the Downtown artist collective that was formed last year at Pangea Supper Club in the East Village for a series of intimate shows.

British-born variety performer Matt Roper gained prominence among New York Theater audiences last year for his portrayal of Chico Marx in I'll Say She Is: The Lost Marx Brothers Musical, which played to barnstorming reviews and sell-out houses at the Connelly Theater. Internationally, he is best known for his creation of the alter-ego Wilfredo, a powerhouse musical comedy sensation. A prototype of the term "neo-vaudevillian", he has two comedy albums, a short film and countless tours to his credit including Wilfredo's Wild Ride, which toured several East Coast cities last month.

Sabrina Chap is the Brooklyn-based cabaret performer, pianist and singer-songwriter whose work has seen her performances described as "the ballad lyrics of Tom Waits, the onstage antics of Phyllis Diller and the voice of a whiskey angel". Noted for her live shows, she has graced some of the biggest stages and the smallest bar-rooms in the world, including Cafe de Paris (London), Theatre Bizarre (Detroit), The Lowry (Manchester), Spiegeltent (NYC with Bindlestiff Cirkus) and most recently Reykjavik Kabarett (Iceland). Her two albums Oompa! and We Are The Parade have been met with both public and critical acclaim.

Gregory Dubin, a.k.a The Great Dubini is a stand-up magician who has charmed audiences from the streets of New York City to the stages of Tokyo. He performs regularly at Ripley's Believe It or Not's Sideshow Wonders, The Love Show NYC, the off-Broadway hit Sleep No More, as well as his own magic and variety show The Mystique Boutique.
