The MAC/ASCAP Songwriter Showcase Comes To The Met Room 3/21

ASCAP, in association with the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs, presents THE MAC/ASCAP SONGWRITER SHOWCASE, Saturday, March 21st @ 2:00PM at the Metropolitan Room

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, in association with MAC present another installment in their recurring Songwriter Showcase series. This event will take place on Saturday, March 21st and 2:00PM at the Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd Street, NYC). Admission is FREE for members of ASCAP and MAC. Non-members $10. The showcase will be hosted by award-winning performer and producer Jamie DeRoy, who will be welcoming songwriters Jeff Blumenkrantz, Steven Lutvak. Sidney Myer will also perform songs from various composers. The special guest will be multi-platinum award winning recording artist David Pomeranz.

David Pomeranz'S songs and recordings have sold over 40 million copies. He is the recipient of 22 Platinum and 18 Gold albums and his concert appearances have delighted audiences all over the world. Dubbed by Billboard Magazine as "...one of our finer voices", David's has recorded eight solo albums including "TIME TO FLY" (Decca) - featuring jazz greats, Chick Corea and Billy Cobham; "THE TRUTH OF US" (Atlantic) and "IT'S IN EVERY ONE OF US" (Arista). His recent release on Universal Records, "BORN FOR YOU - HIS BEST AND MORE," reached over10-times platinum status in Asia and sold over 500,000 copies in the Philippines alone (making it the largest selling album in the history of that country.) One of our most prolific songwriters, David's songs have been recorded and/or performed by scores of major artists including Barry Manilow (whose renditions of David's classic compositions "TRYIN' TO GET THE FEELING AGAIN" and "THE OLD SONGS" were both Number One hits), Cliff Richard ("IT'S IN EVERY ONE OF US" and the Top Ten UK hit, "I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU"), Clay Aiken, Kenny Loggins, Anna Nalik, Bette Midler, Freddie Mercury, Richie Sambora (of Bon Jovi), Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Phoebe Snow, The Hollies, Kathie Lee Giffiord, The Carpenters, Grover Washington, Jr., The Muppets and Rapper, Missy Elliott who sampled David's music for her chart-topping hit single, "ONE MINUTE MAN".

Steven Lutvak wrote the title track to Paramount's hit film MAD HOT BALLROOM, the 9th most successful documentary of all time. Time Magazine profiled him in their People To Watch column. Steven has won both the Kleban Award for Lyric Writing for the Theater and the Fred Ebb Songwriting Award with Robert L. Freedman, his principal collaborator. Their musical, THE UNEXPECTED EARL, was developed at the Huntington Theater in Boston, and at the Sundance Theater Lab. They also wrote CAMPAIGN OF THE CENTURY, which was originally commissioned by American Musical Theater of San Jose, and later presented as part of the Chicago Humanities Festival; CAMPAIGN was subsequently seen at the New York Musical Theater Festival, starring Tony-Award winner Michael Rupert; and won the Beverly Hills Theater Guild's California Musical Theater Award Competition. He was also represented in New York Theater Workshop's SONGS FROM AN UNMADE BED. Other awards include two Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation Awards, the Johnny Mercer Emerging American Songwriter Award, and a New American Works grant from the NEA. He has performed his songs at Carnegie Hall and around the country, and his solo CD is called THE TIME IT TAKES.

Jeff Blumenkrantz is a Tony-nominated composer whose songs have been recorded and performed by such notable singers as Audra McDonald, Victoria Clark, Lauren Kennedy, Megan Mullally, Maria Friedman, and Sutton Foster. Jeff received a 2003 Tony Award nomination for the songs he contributed to the score of Urban Cowboy, the musical. Jeff has performed on Broadway in Into the Woods (1987), Threepenny Opera (with Sting), Damn Yankees, How to Succeed..., and A Class Act and on camera in Joseph ... Dreamcoat, "Will and Grace," and the Great Performances (PBS) telecast of Candide in Concert.

SIDNEY MYER has entertained in many New York Clubs and at The New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago, Hamptons, Palm Springs & London Cabaret Conventions, produced by The Mabel Mercer Foundation. His NY theatre credits include Grandma Sylvia's Funeral, Split Ends, and Times Square Angel (with Charles Busch). He is a regular on the Joey Reynolds Radio Show. Sidney has won numerous MAC & Back Stage Bistro Awards and can be seen weekly in the award-winning Poole Party Comedy/Variety Show at Don't Tell Mama.
