Slavin is currently enjoying a surge of popularity on New York area radio stations and on nationally syndicated radio programs with his newest CD, "You Gotta Have Heart: Ken Slavin Live at The Metropolitan Room in New York," executive-produced by Tony Award-winning theater "angel" Paul Boskind of New York and San Antonio. (Boskind won a 2011 Tony for "Best Revival of a Play" as one of the backers of the critically acclaimed "The Normal Heart" and his most recent production, "Mothers and Sons," starring Tyne Daley, received Tony nominations for "Best Play" and "Best Actress.")
For his new show, Slavin will be accompanied by a classic jazz trio: star guitarist Paul Bollenback, whose new CD, "Portraits In Space And Time," just landed a rave review in Downbeat magazine; veteran bassist Frank Tate, who worked with Bobby Short for the last ten years of his legendary run at New York's Cafe Carlyle; and Texas jazz pianist, composer and arranger Barry Brake, who serves as musical director for the new show.
Slavin's November 29 performance will feature an eclectic program of great New York City-themed standards and assorted jazz classics, including an expanded version of his popular New York medley from which the show takes its name. And in honor of the first weekend of the 2014 Holiday Season, he will toss in some jazzy versions of seasonal classics.
Ken Slavin -- whose jazz and cabaret star continues to rise coast to coast, thanks to cable TV's Music Choice, online music services such as Spotify, and generous traditional and internet radio airplay -- made his New York debut at the Metropolitan Room last fall and released a recording of the show to excellent reviews coast to coast. And he recently became a voting member of The Recording Academy, which produces the annual GRAMMY Awards.
