When Award shows hand out their awards, most nominees head home empty-handed, with only one holding the coveted prize.
Why must it end there?
In what may be an Award show first, the five nominees for The Manhattan Association of Cabaret Award (MAC) Best Female Vocalist category decided to all walk away together ... with a show, a show celebrating their talents, their diversity, and their mutual respect and admiration.
On August 4, Celia Berk, Sally Darling, Meg Flather, Josephine Sanges and Lisa Viggiano reprise TOGETHER: 2017 Cabaret Award- Nominated Vocalists whose first performance in June, benefiting Trinity Place Shelter, was warmly received. Proceeds from their upcoming August show will benefit #TheEmpathyInitiative of The Seeing Place Theatre -- a year-long season of seven plays that fight against sexism, ageism, racism, extremism and oppression. Lending their support to this effort felt like a logical extension of our support of LGBTQ Youth in June. And it gave the women an opportunity to support Erin Cronican, who besides being a Founding Member & Managing Director of the theatre company is also a cherished musical colleague who is a familiar face at the MAC-Award winning Salon open mic.
With Musical Director John M. Cook, it was decided that the individual and group song choices should reflect the "togetherness" theme of the benefit, complete with original songs by singer/songwriter friends, Ann Hampton Callaway and Michele Brourman, Tim Di Pasqua, Tex Arnold and Meg Flather. Also expect to hear standards and surprises by Rodgers and Hart, Noel Coward and Stephen Sondheim, among others. Jeff Harnar directs.
TOGETHER: 2017 Cabaret Award-Nominated Vocalists became an event not to be missed.
