With music and lyrics by Tony Asaro (Our Country) and book by Kirsten Guenther (Benny & Joon, Mrs. Sharp, Little Miss Fix-it), The Cable Car Nymphomaniac is an uproarious new musical comedy that recently played a sold-out engagement at San Francisco's FOGG Theatre. The show's East Coast debut will be a one-night-only concert on July 10th at 9:30pm at Feinstein's/54 Below.
In 1970, Gloria Sykes brought a suit against the San Francisco Municipal Railway for a 1964 cable car collision, which she claimed triggered her insatiable desire for sex. The wife of the lawyer on Gloria's case, Bryce, has no idea that Gloria's story will have such a dramatic effect on her own desires as well. The Cable Car Nymphomaniac is a racy new musical ripped from the headlines by composer-lyricist Tony Asaro, and book writer Kirsten Guenther. Set against the backdrop of the sexual revolution, it explores the story of how one woman's compliance inspires another woman's defiance, and asks: "what happens when women want the kind of things women aren't supposed to want?"
The cast is comprised almost entirely of New York actors who are originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, and features: Lauren Blackman (Anastasia, Little Dancer), Ellyn Marie Marsh (Kinky Boots, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), Mariand Torres (Wicked, Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812), Ryan Vasquez (Waitress), Courter Simmons (Jersey Boys), Adam Theodore Barry, and Mimi Robinson. The evening will be directed by Terry Berliner with musical direction by Matt Castle, and produced by Gregory Jacobs-Roseman & Roadie Soadie Productions.
The Cable Car Nymphomaniac plays Feinstein's/54 Below (254 West 54th Street) on Sunday, July 10th at 9:30pm. There is a $25-$35 cover charge and a $25 food and beverage minimum. Tickets and information are available at www.54Below.com. Tickets on the day of performance after 4:00 are only available by calling (646) 476-3551.
