Steven Fales confesses "God has seen me through excommunication, divorce, prostitution and drugs, now we're working on narcissism—and it's not going well." Mormon American Princess is an exploration of our self-absorbed society using the multi-talented Fales as a microcosm. But with the help of his new Higher Power (She's fabulous!), he's beginning to see the light as he continues to put Utah on the MAP! This cabaret act includes original songs like "The Excommunication Polka," "Cult Rap," "Narcissus", and "You and Utah," as well as such standards as "I Don't Know How To Love Him," "Fifty Percent," "Son of a Preacher Man," "If He Walked Into My Life," "Never Met A Man I Didn't Like," and outrageous medleys and parodies of favorite Broadway show tunes including Steven's popular "Mormon Broadway Medley" and his signature song "Mormon American Princess." The show recently enjoyed sold-out runs in San Diego and San Francisco and Salt Lake City.
Steven Fales' acclaimed one-man play Confessions of a Mormon Boy has played over 500 performances in major cities across the country and will open in London at the New End Theatre July 28 thru Aug. 30, 2008. It was a break-out hit at the International Dublin Gay Theater Festival in May 2008 (Oscar Wilde Award Nomination for Outstanding New Writing for the Theatre) and at the 2004 NY International Fringe Festival (Overall Excellence Award for Solo Show). Directed by Tony Award-winner Jack Hofsiss, the play went on to an Off-Broadway run at the SoHo Playhouse (NY Outer Critics Award Nomination for Outstanding Solo Performance). Fales' book Confessions of a Mormon Boy (Alyson Books, 2006) was a 2007 Lambda Literary Award Finalist. An international tour and documentary film is currently in development.
Steven is currently working on a new book called Oxy-Mormon Memoirs, the plays Sacred Strain and a new solo play Missionary Position opening in Los Angeles, January 2008. A classically trained actor, Fales received his M.F.A. in acting from the University of Connecticut. He trained at the Boston Conservatory and received his B.F.A. from Brigham Young University. An excommunicated Mormon, Fales lives in Salt Lake City where he takes an active role in raising his two children. He is the founder of Mormon Boy Productions, LLC at www.mormonboy.com and The Possibility Foundation which assists sex workers desiring to transition out of the sex industry.
