Rita Moreno's show-stopping performances from the American Songbook and Broadway classics will enthrall audiences at QPAC on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 3:00pm.
Moreno's illustrious career has spanned over seven decades. She belongs to an elite group of only 12 living performers who have won entertainment's grand slam of the industry's most prestigious awards: The Oscar (West Side Story--for which she also won a Golden Globe; The Emmy (both for The Muppet Show and The Rockford Files); The Tony (The Ritz) and The Grammy (Electric Company Album).
From her early years in theater to the height of her film stardom, Moreno rose above the limitations of Hollywood typecasting, establishing herself as a versatile performer with virtually unlimited talent. She collected dozens of show business awards and honors, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was named a Kennedy Center Lifetime Artistic Achievement Honoree. Her status as a national treasure was officially recognized when President George W. Bush presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004. She was also awarded the American National Medal of the Arts in 2010 by President Barack Obama for her lifetime of service and contributions to the arts.
Her stage credits, which are too many to fully list here, include: She Loves Me, Sunset Boulevard, and The Ritz; and on television: The Electric Company, Oz and Law and Order Special Victims. She just completed production on the Latino remake of Norman Lear's classic sitcom, One Day at a Time, which will premiere on Netflix in January 2017.
"We are thrilled to welcome this timeless star of stage and screen, whose journey took her from Puerto Rico to Hollywood and then here to Queens!" said Susan Agin, Executive Director of QPAC. "Our audiences are in for an electrifying afternoon of world class entertainment featuring a living legend."
