Musical Mondays features more than 25 Chicago Cabaret Professionals performers.
This Spring, Chicago Cabaret Professionals is presenting two unique concerts - Musical Mondays - that showcase the talents of more than 25 local cabaret artists. The all-ages concerts will be at Szold Hall, Old Town School of Folk Music, in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood.
The first concert, scheduled for Monday, April 4, pairs popular veteran cabaret performers with Chicago's brightest new talents performing torch songs. The second concert, on Monday, May 9, will feature pop songs re-imagined in a cabaret style. The May 9 performance will also be a part of the inaugural Chicago Cabaret Week (May 6 to 15), with multiple cabaret events taking place at popular music venues around Chicagoland - with artists performing blues, jazz, burlesque, pop, comedy, Broadway and the standard American Songbook.
"We are excited to relaunch Musical Mondays at the Old Town School, which is a fabulous venue for many types of performance," said Anne Burnell, president of Chicago Cabaret Professionals. "If you love music or are just curious what makes cabaret a unique art form, these shows present a wide variety of talent and you'll experience what Chicago has to offer."
Chicago Cabaret Professionals began Musical Mondays in 2008, and for several years the shows were at Water Tower Place, before moving to Victory Gardens Theater and Skokie Theatre in 2015. Due to the pandemic, the series has had a two-year hiatus.
According to Burnell, "This series has always been unique because Mondays are usually a 'dark night' for theaters, when no performances are scheduled, and we've found it's a perfect opportunity for audiences to experience cabaret in these venues. With this relaunch of Musical Mondays, we created themes for each of the shows, with a terrific lineup of performers."
Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music is the largest community school of the arts in the U.S. and a non-profit organization committed to celebrating American music and global cultures.
