KOTORINO / SWEET SOUBRETTE

Wednesday, September 2 at 7:00PM

$15

Creaky Brooklyn band Kotorino plays darkly elegant, trippy, gypsy-flavored "parlor rock" with carnivalesque touches. The band features haunting vocal harmonies and lyrics that flirt with adventure, unease and triumph.

Sweet Soubrette's dark, lush songs explore troubled romance, the inner lives of bad women, works of literature, and the mysteries of existence, featuring the songwriting, vocals and ukulele of award-winning Brooklyn singer/songwriter Ellia Bisker and a talented band of musical collaborators.

DIANE BIRCH

Wednesday, September 2 at 9:30PM

$18

Pianist/singer/songwriter Diane Birch continues her monthly residency, wherein she tries out new music and revisits older work. Birch marries darkness and light, pain and abandon on Speak A Little Louder (2013, S-Curve Records), her last album. A window into her complex journey into womanhood, the album documented with intense emotional honesty, indelible melodies and rousing hooks. Speak A Little Louder followed Birch's extraordinary 2009 debut, Bible Belt, which opened in the Billboard Top 100 and prompted comparisons to Laura Nyro and Karen Carpenter along with glowing reviews from The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and more.

ROBIN MCKELLE

Thursday, September 3 at 7:30PM

$15

Memphis. The city is like a place of pilgrimage for any soul, blues, or rhythm and blues fan. Robin McKelle, who went back to her first love with the album Mess Around in 2010, has chosen the city of the Stax and Hi record labels, Otis Redding, and Al Green for her new album. Just a few minutes of listening to Heart Of Memphis is enough to understand that choice. Despite the changes of time, the spirit of the city that, in its heyday, represented one of the best eras of American popular music has not disappeared. With her deep voice and her earthy, frank, direct, and gut-wrenching singing, McKelle embraces the legacy of those great artists.

MOLLY RYAN

Thursday, September 3 at 9:30PM

$12 Adv / $15 Doors

The Wall Street Journal's Will Friedwald describes Molly Ryan as "a critic's favorite." One of the most sought-after vocalists on the New York jazz scene, she has performed at such prestigious venues as Café Carlyle, Rainbow Room, and world-famous jazz clubs Birdland, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola and Iridium. Ryan is releasing her third solo album Let's Fly Away, featuring piano legend Dick Hyman.

SOMI

Friday, September 4 at 7:30PM & 9:30PM

$25 Adv / $30 Doors

In late 2011, acclaimed East African vocalist & songwriter Somi decided to move from New York City to Lagos, Nigeria for 18 months in search of new inspiration. The result: a new album she calls The Lagos Music Salon released in August 2014 as her major label debut on Sony Music/Okeh - landing at #1 on US Jazz charts. The album, which features special guests Angelique Kidjo, Common and Ambrose Akinmusire, draws it material from the tropical city's boastful cosmopolitanism, urgent inspiration and giant spirit - straddling the worlds of African jazz, soul, and pop with a newfound ease and a voice that Vogue Magazine simply calls "Superb!"

Saturday, September 5 at 9:30PM

$16

The official New York City CD release party performance of Éxitos Acústicos from two-time GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter, Elsten "Fulano" Torres. Éxitos Acústicos is a musical journey of some of my best-known hit songs recorded by international Latin recording artists. Our approach was to recreate these songs in an organic, acoustic way giving them the original sentimentality and feel of when they were first written.

JAMIE KILSTEIN

Sunday, September 6 at 9:00PM

$20

Comedian Jamie Kilstein's latest CD, What Alive People Do, spent its first week released at number one on the iTunes and Amazon comedy charts. His first book, which he coauthored, #Newsfail was critically acclaimed, receiving praise from the likes of Dirty Wars author Jeremy Scahill and Mythbusters' Adam Savage. He and his co-host were named by The Nation as top "media heroes". Most importantly, Glenn Beck has called him a "doofus" and "goofball" and Jonah Goldberg refuses to fight him. He was been a Timeout Chicago, Sydney, New York and London's Critics Pick. He has played the concert hall of the Sydney Opera House and opened for Bad Religion.

KRISTO RODZEVSKI: BATANIA CD RELEASE

Monday, September 7 at 7:30PM

$12

Vocalist and guitarist Kristo Rodzevski's debut album Batania comes out September 1st on Much Prefer Records. The album deals with longing, ritual, loss, and the movement of guilt and aesthetics between generations. The lyrics are in Macedonian and the compositions are performed alongside some of the most exciting musicians on New York's jazz and improvised music scene. Melancholic, yet playful. Archaic, yet innocent. Batania is a faint memory at the edge of consciousness, the hint of the maker's hand in the weave of a heavy, woolen blanket. The melodies drift toward us from an unknown neighbor's transistor radio, beguiling and familiar.

TERAKAFT

Monday, September 7 at 7:30PM

$22

Alone is the 5th album of Terakaft. It was produced by Justin Adams who is one of the musicians from Europe who has delved deep into Tuareg music in the last years. Adams is known as a musician and producer through his work with Robert Plant, Tinariwen and Juldeh Camara. He has geared up "The Caravan" to reach new shores and hit the dancefloors. In these troubled times, they have made an album together, that presents the deep Saharan rhythms as a vital contemporary heartbeat. Standing on the ruins of their people's dreams they sing to their brothers and sisters about true friendship and tolerance.

JOAN SHELLEY

Tuesday, September 8 at 7:30PM

$12

Joan Shelley follows her acclaimed 2014 album Electric Ursa with a quieter, more contemplative set - Over and Even - recorded in a farmhouse in her home state of Kentucky. The New York Times calls her music, "folky and pastoral, with a sense of scale that makes her humble about her place in mankind and the universe, and her songs are serene but never complacent." NPR, which debuted Over and Even with an exclusive First Listen, said, "Her voice is milky and smooth, but her songs are aged and made wise by their lyrical weight. From the best of her genre she's inherited the illusory ability to write songs that sound ancient and unimpeachably true."

ERIN AND HER CELLO / THE SARAH GOLDFEATHER BAND

Tuesday, September 8 at 9:30PM

$15

Erin and Her Cello have been charming audiences with their "quirky, vivacious, and undeniably unique" (Strings Magazine) performances all over the East Coast. This kooky songstress, her stringed soul mate and six-person band, simply cannot be confined to one musical genre. Their new album, Petits Bisous, packs a retro punch, melding 50's/60's doo wop, surf rock, jazz, funk and French pop. Also a darling of the downtown comedy scene, Erin underscores every song with deft wit.

Sarah Goldfeather is a singer, songwriter, violinist and bandleader for her eponymous indie-folk band. Her songs are personal notes to people she has known, set to three-part harmonies against a lush indie/folk/pop backdrop. The group released their EP, Goldfeather, in 2014, and has performed throughout the East Coast and Minnesota. A "young and multi-talented performer" (The ABCs of NYC) with a "sweet, bubbly stage presence" (Village Voice), Goldfeather has collaborated with Eliot Glazer, Cooper Boone, Jesus on the Mainline, Mixtape: A Cover Band For Hipster and more.

Singer-songwriter Bruce Sudano has a storied history in the world of music. Beginning with his 2004 release Rainy Day Soul and the subsequent Life & the Romantic, his work became involved with the raw expression of internal challenges central to adult lives. His new album, With Angels On A Carousel, continues this journey with songs that reflect his experience with crisis beyond control.

BRIDGET EVERETT & THE TENDER MOMENTS

Thursday, September 10 at 9:30PM

$30

Hot on the heels of her critically acclaimed and completely sold out production of Rock Bottom, New York's downtown darling Bridget Everett returns the stage with her band, The Tender Moments, and a bottle of chardonnay to sing all her favorite love songs and share the stories of the men that made her...feel? From tender moments to prison sex, come get inside her.

AZIZ SAHMAOUI & UNIVERSITY OF GNAWA

Friday, September 11 at 9:30PM

$20

With a few plucks of the guembri, surrounded by a squadron of musicians both talented and inspired, Moroccan Aziz Sahmaoui gets everyone going. His second album is a work of maturity that brings together his musical passions, gnawa, rock and fusion - affirming himself as a writer, composer and musical interpreter to be reckoned with.

Everything started in 2010 at the French Kawa bar in Paris, run by the ex-manager of Orchestre National de Barbès. The café housed a tiny stage where Sahmaoui, a founder of the ONB and faithful acolyte of Joe Zawinul, played regularly with Alioune Wade. Fellow musicians Hervé Samb, Cheikh Diallo and Adhil Mirghani joined them. Audiences swelled and the link between the Moroccan and the Senegalese was established: the gnawa rhythms and their rustic groove laid groundwork for experiments by these high-flying instrumentalists. The University of Gnawa was born.

THE SWEET REMAINS

Saturday, September 12 at 9:30PM

$16 Adv / $19 Doors

When singer-songwriters Rich Price, Greg Naughton and Brian Chartrand came together in 2007 for a chance jam-session, they discovered a little bit of magic that -- despite their geographical differences and solo-careers -- was hard to ignore. With lush three-part harmonies and strong lyrical songwriting, The Sweet Remains and their debut CD, Laurel & Sunset, was born in 2009 and quickly garnered comparisons to earlier folk-rock "super-groups" like Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Eagles, etc. While these influences (plus more current artists, like Ray Lamontagne and John Mayer) are evident in their sound, the songs, harmonies and personalities are uniquely their own.

RYAN RAFTERY IS THE MOST POWERFUL WOMAN IN FASHION

Sunday, September 13 at 7:00PM

$30

Through popular music and an astounding measure of creative license, "one-man musical juggernaut" (NY Daily News) Ryan Raftery returns to tell the story of a fateful day in the life of the most powerful woman in fashion. The seismic sartorial smash hit that has played to sell-out crowds in New York and Los Angeles returns home for the FINAL performance during New York Fashion Week! She has sat at the top of a $300 billion industry for twenty-six years. Her power and influence cannot be denied. But when she places a reality star and a certain rapper on the cover of her magazine, the backlash is harsh and for the first time, her credibility is called into question.
