Whistling Away The Dark is filled with songs written by legendary songwriters of Broadway and Hollywood that were introduced by or have become synonymous with Julie Andrews. Shana Farr weaves an intelligent story full of inspiration and humor using a few of the well-known songs such as "Ten Minutes Ago," "I Could Have Danced All Night," and "The Sound of Music," as well as pieces that have almost been forgotten such as "Once Upon A Long Ago" by Arthur Schwartz and Maxwell Anderson, "Whistling Away The Dark" by Mancini & Mercer, "Star!" by Jimmy Van Heusen & Sammy Cahn, as well as "Je suis Titania," the aria Julie Andrews sang at the age of 13 for the Queen of England.

Guided by award-winning director, Eric Michael Gillett and Emmy Award-winning Musical Director, Fred Barton, Shana cleverly brings attention to the lyrics and melodies by pulling the songs out of their original contexts combining them in ways to tell a new story.

Last summer, Shana debuted with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera where she played the role of Princess Margaret in "The Student Prince." Shana has been seen at New York City Center with the New YorK Gilbert & Sullivan Players performing leading roles in "The Yeomen of the Guard" (Elsie Maynard) and the title role in Princess Ida. Her Off Broadway credits include "The Merry Widow" (title role), "The Music Man" (Marian Paroo), "Oklahoma!" (Laurey Williams), and "The Pirates of Penzance" (Mabel). Her regional/concert credits include "The Student Prince" (Kathie), "Madame Butterfly" (Kate Pinkerton), soloist with The South Shore Symphony and soloist with the Missouri Symphony Orchestra, among others.

During the past year, she has appeared in cabaret venues such as The Laurie Beechman Theatre (NYC), The Kranzberg Arts Center (St. Louis), the Tudor City Greens Concert Series (NYC), and several others. On television, Shana has guest hosted jewelry segments on shopping channels all over the world. When she is not busy performing, Shana manages her own premium fashion line of silver and gemstone jewelry (Shana Farr Designs). She learned the art of fine jewelry design while employed for several years at the luxury jeweler Harry Winston, after which she worked with a high-end, couture fashion designer, increasing her knowledge of the fashion world.
