Composer/lyricist Scott Evan Davis will appear with special guests for one show only at Don't Tell Mama on March 14 at 8pM. Davis will present the music from his recently released debut recording – Cautiously Optimistic: The Music of Scott Evan Davis (Sonic Landscapes Music). In addition to all the music from his recording, Davis will introduce the opening number from an original, commissioned musical he's writing for PS 94's autistic children's program. The song is titled "If the World Only Knew."
As he and producer/arranger David Snyder did for his album, Davis has assembled an exciting group of performers to interpret his songs at Don't Tell Mama. The evening's line-up includes: Sierra Rein, Joshua Dixon, Natalie Douglas, Erik Sisco, Erin Lindsey Krom, Nikki Van Cassele, William Blake, Nicole Johndrow, Vicky Modica and one more special guest. Davis will accompany the singers with Cellist Bjorn Berkhout. Pianist Robby Stamper will accompany Davis on "I Am".
Scott Evan Davis is a self-taught pianist and a graduate of Emerson College and AMDA New York. In 2008, after a period of working outside the music and performing business, he had a transformative personal experience that turned his focus decisively back to music and particularly, songwriting. Davis explains:
"In 2008, as odd as it may sound, I was visited in a dream by my late musical mentor. To my great regret we'd had a falling out and never reconciled before he died. In the dream he hugged me, which I took as a sign of forgiveness, and the next day a melody he hummed in the dream came back to me. It became the basis for the song 'Cautiously Optimistic.' The experience influenced the themes I wrote: acceptance, forgiveness and moving forward. It was his ultimate gift to me."
