Strictly for the Birds, an evening of song inspired by our feathered friends, will debut at Pangea, 178 Second Avenue, New York, NY, on Friday, July 27 at 7 pm.
The show will be performed by jazz vocalist MJ Territo, accompanied by David Pearl at the piano and Paul Beaudry on bass.
"I love to build an evening around songs that naturally enhance one another," says Territo, the group's leader. "Birds have been an inspiration for so many of the composers of the Great American Songbook and beyond. To mention just a few, there is the Hoagy Carmichael classic, Skylark; and Dave and Iola Brubeck's Strange Meadowlark. Cole Porter's Let's Do It has an entire verse dedicated to birds. And how could I leave out Lennon & McCartney's Blackbird?"
Territo adds that the show is also dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the release of Carmen McRae's 1958 album, Birds of a Feather, and will feature some of the same tunes McRae sang on that record date.
Tickets, $20, may be purchased in advance at: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3477149 or at the door for $25. There is a $20 food or beverage minimum.
