Celina Carvajal (Kinky Boots) and Bryce Ryness (Around the World in 80 Days,Hair) will star in a presentation of SALVAGE, a new musical by Harris Doran and Arthur LaFrentz Bacon tonight, May 13, 2013 at 7:30 PM at the Daryl Roth Theatre in New York City as part of New York Theatre Barn's revolutionary new musical development platform NYTB in the D-Lounge, executive produced by Laura Brandel and Jason Najjoum.
Doran and Bacon's work was last seen in NYC at the National Alliance for Musical Theater's 24th Annual Festival of New Musicals in October 2012. SALVAGE, a Lower East Side pop/rock/funk/R&B musical, follows aspiring artist Skyler as he moves to NYC to advance his work as redemption for his perceived failing in keeping his mom alive. SALVAGE is about the beauty in the world around us that is sometimes hard to see but is always worth finding. Appearing with Carvajal and Ryness are Katrina Rose Dideriksen (Things to Ruin, Jerry Springer: The Opera), Liz Froio, Nicolette Hart (Rent), Natalie Joy Johnson (Legally Blonde), Kelly King (Marty Thomas' Diva), Kevin Smith Kirkwood (Kinky Boots), Sean Patrick Murtagh, Jeremy Pasha, Angelo Rios, Sheri Sanders ("Rock the Audition"), and Erin Zaruba. SALVAGE is directed by Joe Barros, with music direction by Arthur LaFrentz Bacon.
Presented alongside SALVAGE is Real Adventure: The Lyrics of Marcus Stevens. After having completed a 10-month run impersonating some of his favorite musical theater writers in Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Kicking!,Marcus Stevens returns to writing with his first ever concert of his collected lyrics. Stevens' set list includes hit songs from Yo, Vikings!, highlights from new projects and some other fun surprises. The evening will feature music by Sam Willmott, David Caldwell, Douglas Levine, Oran Eldor and others, sung by Stephen DaRosa (The Nance, Into The Woods), Lisa Brescia (Ordinary Days), Alyse Alan Louis (Mamma Mia!), Michael O'Brien, Adam Overett (The Light in the Piazza), Peter Reardon (Urinetown), and Marcus Stevens (Forbidden Broadway). Real Adventure is directed by Rachel Stevens, with music direction by David Caldwell. The stage manager for both sets is Mackenzie Meeks.
Cover charge is $15 ($10 for students and BMI members). Doors open at 7:00 PM, show starts at 7:30 PM, in the D-Lounge, underground the Daryl Roth Theatre (101 East 15th Street, just east of Union Square) on Monday May 13, 2013. Walk-ins only.
