Political- and Party-Animals to Take a Stand at Pangea in October

Downtown's alternative supper-club Pangea will bring us to our knees in October. Whether it's the high priestesses Carol Lipnik or Tammy Faye Starlite, or a new breed of soothsayers like Natti Vogel or Zachary Clause, all are welcome!

Whether it's the political animals Jeremy Lawrence and David Cale, not to mention the old-school party-animals Barbara Bleier & Austin Pendleton, all will be heard. Or the incomparable Jeff Macauley and Linda Glick, who know how much there is to learn... or the boundary-melting avant-gardian Claywoman, reprising his acclaimed concoctions...

We all are ready to rise, to show up for the life-giving party that is bohemian, inclusive and tolerant New York!

Making matters better right from the start, is the iconoclast of iconoclasts Tammy Faye Starlite, who brings us "Just a Kiss Away," a new rock 'n roll Valentine in which she probes the Mick Jagger and Keith Richards songbook. Focusing on a different Rolling Stones album every show, this marvel of in-character improv, historical perspective, and witty social commentary all rolled into one, is joined by the guitarists Richard Feridun and Keith Hartel for the run, with different special guest musicians every week. In observance of the one-year anniversary of the US election... Jeremy Lawrence redeploys his critically acclaimed "Lavender Songs -- A Queer Weimar Berlin Cabaret" a chilling evocation of Weimar Berlin's queer underground as it faced imminent danger. Directed by Jason Jacobs, the show was extended twice in 2017. Pangea is proud to bring it back for its third must-see engagement. Don't miss it! NOW more than ever! TWEED SUNDAYS

Noted Downtown impresario Kevin Malony continues to curate a stunning array of solo performances at Pangea... mostly on Sundays, but not always. A standout of the current Glisten! Series (produced by Malony's TWEED TheaterWorks) is another shocking visit by other world Claywoman. This time "Conversations with Claywoman" features special guest Cynthia Nixon, and it happens on Wednesday Oct 11, 7pm. Cover is $20!

Also this month and also part of the Glisten! Series, Kevin brings back meaty writer and performer David Cale for another helping of his first all-singing show of original songs, "Songs for Charming Strangers." It's not as strange as you think when the Obie-winning solo performer lets his songs do all the talking, but then again, stranger things have happened. With Matthew Dean Marsh on accordion and piano. Making sure the conversation never degenerates, it's Downtown Diva Carol Lipnik -- with fellow songwriter Matt Kanelos on piano -- as they return for a new round of Sunday sceances, also part of the TWEED line-up. Her new show "Songs from a Stone Tower," a dreamlike meditation on the growing siege mentality gripping our world, kicks back on Sunday Oct 22, Nov 5, Dec 3 at 7pm. Cover $20.

Actress and singer Linda Glick makes her Pangea debut in "Teach Me Tonight," an eclectic evening blending styles and cultures from notable truth seekers. The City-born Glick, who portrayed Nancy Pelosi on HBO's Too Big to Fail, and was Rita Lyons in "The Lyons," gets her best answers from Coward and Porter; Randy Newman; Janis Ian; Charles Aznavour; Alberto Manzanero, and Billy Joel. Zachary Clause takes you to The Baths to meet Bette Midler and Barry Manilow and all the others in "Zachary Clause Does Bette Midler at the Continental Baths, 1971." One of the funniest performance-satirists on the scene today, Clause is surely one of just a small handful who can REALLY pull off a portrayal of these bigger than life queer icons. It's time to go down in NYC gay history, with music director Darren R. Cohen pointing the way. 3 SHOWS ONLY! Friday, October 27, Saturdays, November 4, 11, all at 7:30pm. Cover is $25, bitch!

ONE NIGHT ONLY: The Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Natti Vogel knows how to stir up trouble, to the delight of his naturally outraged Gen Y followers. Check out this shoot-from-the-hipster singer-piano man as he continues to make waves in his first Pangea stand. Saturday Oct 14, 7pm Cover $20.

ONCE A MONTH: Jeff Macauley knows how to throw a Hollywood party! His "Hollywood Party: Movie Songs 1928 - 1936" is witty and breezy and likely to turn you upside down. You'll be in very good hands indeed when you show up Monday Oct 30, Thurs Nov 30, and Friday Dec 15, all 7pm. Cover $25.

Getting the party started in October are fun-loving song-and-story duo Austin Pendleton and Barbara Bleier reprising their flawless "Beautiful Mistake." Featuring the story-songs of John Bucchino and Amanda McBroom, these brainy amigos have become our Pangea sweethearts. Try it, you'll like it! Tues Oct 3, all at 7pm. Cover $20.
