The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present Broadway's
Lindsay Mendez (currently Elphaba in Wicked) and pianist
Marco Paguia on the historic stage on Sunday, July 21. The event celebrated the release of their new recording, "This Time." Check out a look back at their performance below!
"This Time" is a 13-song collection, which offers an eclectic mix of songs, reimagining tracks from popular music and blending elements of jazz, soul and rock into the familiar setting of an acoustic piano trio and vocalist. Reinterpretations include tracks by
Alicia Keys,
Stevie Wonder,
Fiona Apple, The Cars,
Joni Mitchell,
John Legend and more. Joining Mendez and Paguia will be
Pete Donovan (bass) and
Tommy Crane (drums).
Mendez, currently starring as Elphaba in Wicked, was last seen on Broadway in the revival of Godspell at Circle in the Square, and was also seen in Everyday Rapture, Grease, Off-Broadway's Dogfight and The Marvelous Wonderettes as well as the
Ryan Scott Oliver song cycle 35mm.
Paguia, who was the music director of the Tony-nominated Best Play, Peter and the Starcatcher, composed the Fringe First Award-winning How to Act Around Cops (New York and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals). He has musically directedEveryday Rapture and Peter and the Starcatcher at New York Theatre Workshop, as well as the national tours ofDisney's On The Record and Flower Drum Song.
The Broadway at Birdland concert series takes place every Monday night at 7pm. Birdland is located at 315 West 44 Street in NYC.
